Creating a Line Symbol

You can extend a line symbol library through creating new line symbols. Below are the steps for creating line symbols.

1. In the Line Symbol Library Selector, select a group in the symbol group tree.
2. In the Symbol Library Selector, click the Create button at the bottom to display the Line Symbol Editor where you can create a new line symbol.

Here you must specify the symbol ID and symbol name. Meanwhile, you need to keep at least one child line in the stroke selector. Otherwise, you will fail if you click OK to create a new symbol and add it to the symbol pane of the selected symbol group.

3. Symbol properties you must specify include the symbol ID and the symbol name.
4. ID: The symbol ID which uniquely identifies a symbol in the symbol library. Different symbols in the same symbol library cannot have the same symbol ID.
5. Name: The display name of the symbol in the symbol library. Different symbols in the same symbol library can have identical symbol names.
6. In the Child Line Selector, click Add to add a child line.

5. You can further add more child line. When finished, click OK to add the new line symbol to the symbol pane.

The new line symbol can be further edited. To do so, select it, click Edit at the bottom of the Line Symbol Editor dialog box.

To save the new line symbol to the symbol library, you still need to:

• Save the workspace if the currently open line symbol library is associated with a workspace.
• Export the currently open line symbol library as a file. The exported line symbol library file will have the new line symbol included. Afterwards, you can open the exported line symbol library file to access the line symbol.
