Marker symbols added to the symbol pane can be further edited to satisfy your needs. There are primarily three types of marker symbols: 2D vector marker symbols, 2D raster marker symbols, and 3D marker symbols. The three types of marker symbols are edited in the Marker Symbol Editor, Raster Symbol Editor, and 3D Marker Symbol Editor.
To edit a marker symbol in the symbol pane, you need to:
- Firstly, select the marker symbol you want to edit in the Marker Symbol Selector.
- Then, click Edit at the bottom of the Marker Symbol Selector to display the corresponding editor.
- Click OK in the editor dialog box to save the changes. For different types of marker symbols, the settings in the editors are different.
Edit 2D Vector Marker Symbols
If the selected marker symbol in the symbol selector is a vector symbol, the Marker Symbol Editor will show up with the selected symbol displayed for editing when you click Edit. After editing, click OK to finish. About how to edit a marker symbol, please refer to the introduction in Marker Symbol Editor.
The changes to the marker symbols can only be saved through saving the workspace with which the marker symbol library is associated or saving the marker symbol library.
Edit 2D Raster Marker Symbols
Editing 2D raster marker symbols include editing the properties of the symbol such as the symbol ID, symbol name, origin.
- Firstly, select the raster marker symbol in the Marker Symbol Selector.
- Click Edit or double click the selected symbol to display the Marker Symbol Editor.
Here, you can edit the symbol ID, symbol name, origin of the marker symbol.
- After editing, click OK to finish.
The origin of the symbol is also called the anchor point, which decides the center of the raster symbol. When rendering points with a marker symbol, the origin of the marker symbol will be on the point.
In addition to set the origin by specifying values in the two boxes, you can also set the origin by clicking the Origin button and then clicking in the editing area below showing the symbol.
- In the Raster Symbol Editor, click the Origin button.
- In the editing area below, move the mouse the the position where you want the origin be, then click.
Besides, you can deal with the color of raster symbols, namely, change the region of selected color in raster symbol into transparent . The detail operation is: Click “Transparency” button and select the color. The region with this color is changed into transparent.
