Edit Objects

Editing objects is a common operation on geometries. For example, when drawing the Boston map, it is necessary to merge the South China Sea Islands into a complex object for convenient unified operations. Another example is when handling land changes, using the local update function to update the changed land boundaries. The product provides up to 54 common editing functions, bringing great convenience to data processing.

The Edit Data tab is a contextual tab that provides functions for objects and editing on the map, bound to the map. Only when the current active window in the application is a map will this tab appear on the ribbon.

The geometric feature editing functions provided by the feature editing group are all performed under the condition that the layer is editable. Therefore, to edit the geometries in a layer, the layer must be set as an editable layer.

The feature editing functions are primarily classified by geometry type, displayed in the form of drop-down menus, following the intuitive logic of 'what object to edit → what tool to use', primarily categorizing the tools by the geometry type they mainly serve.

Function Classification

Basic Editing Operations

Basic Editing Operations: Introduces the use of several common operations in the map, such as copy, cut, paste, redo, undo, delete, and other functions.

Edit Node: Introduces how to edit the nodes of an object, including moving, deleting, adding nodes, etc.

General editing

General editing includes general actions applicable to various geometry types such as points, lines, and regions.

Line editing

Line editing includes specialized operations applicable only to line objects.

Face editing

Face editing includes specialized operations applicable only to region objects.

  • Boundary Trim: draw line to modify border, select line to modify border
  • Dimension and segmentation: draw line to construct surface, draw surface to construct surface, Divide by Area
  • Face relationship: Ask for Intersection, Erase, Xor
  • Hole treatment: fill gap, Donut Polygon

Topology editing

Topology editing includes a family of tools for dealing with topological relationships.

Type Conversion

Type conversion includes conversion tools between different geometry types.

Route Edit

Route edit includes professional tools for handling linear reference systems (M values).
