Extend

Function Description

The extend function is used to extend two or more non-intersecting line objects to ensure they eventually intersect.

  • When selecting the line to extend, click the segment to be extended. The endpoint closer to the mouse click position will be used as the starting point for extension towards the baseline. If the extension line intersects with the baseline, it can be extended correctly; otherwise, it fails.
  • When the layer is editable, extend the selected line object (or line objects in a CAD layer) to the specified object (baseline).
  • In extend mode, if a line object has been selected as the baseline, only other different line objects can be continuously extended to this baseline.
  • In a line layer, the baseline can be any type of line object, such as a straight line, parallel line, circle, etc., or a complex line object. The line to be extended can be any non-closed simple line object, such as a straight line, polyline, arc, polyline, etc. It should be noted that parallel lines are complex objects with two sub-objects.
  • In a CAD layer, both the baseline and the line to be extended must be line objects with object type as line. The object type can be viewed through the geo in object properties.

Function Entry

  • Edit Data Tab -> Feature Editing Group -> Line editing -> Trim the alignment -> Extend

Operating Steps

  1. In the Edit Data tab, from the Line editing dropdown menu, click the Extend button in the Trim the alignment group to perform the extend operation. At this time, the mouse prompt in the map: select base line.
  2. After selecting a line object as the baseline, the map will prompt: click line to extend.
  3. Click the line object to be extended, and be sure to select the position on the line object closer to the baseline direction. Then the application will automatically extend the endpoint closer to the baseline to the baseline position. If you click the endpoint position on the line object far from the baseline direction, it will not be extended.
  4. If you need to extend other line objects to this baseline, continue clicking the line objects to be extended.
  5. To end this operation, you can press the ESC key on the keyboard.

    Or perform the following operation:

    Click the right mouse button to end.

Notes:

When the line to be extended, its extension line does not intersect with the baseline, the extend operation cannot be performed.
