Extend

Function Description

The Extend function extends two or more disjoint line objects to ensure they eventually intersect.

  • When selecting a line object to extend, click the line segment to be extended with the mouse. The endpoint closer to the mouse click position will be used as the start point for extension toward the baseline direction. If the extended line intersects with the baseline, the extension succeeds; otherwise, it fails.
  • In the editable state of the layer, extend the selected line object (or line object in the CAD layer) to the specified object (baseline).
  • In the extending state, if a line object has been selected as the baseline, different other line objects can only be continuously extended to that baseline.
  • In a line layer, the baseline can be any type of line object, such as lines, parallel lines, circles, etc., or complex line objects. The line to be extended can be any unclosed simple line object, such as lines, polylines, arcs, and multi-polylines. It should be noted that a parallel line is a complex object with two sub-objects.
  • In a CAD layer, both the baseline and the line to be extended must be line objects with the object type "Line". The object type can be viewed through the "geo" in object properties.

Function Entry

  • Edit Data tab -> Object Editing group -> Line editing -> Trim the alignment -> Extend

Operation Steps

  1. On the Line editing drop-down menu of the Edit Data tab, click the Extend button in the Trim the alignment group to perform the extend operation. At this point, the mouse prompt in the map displays: "Select base line."
  2. After selecting a line object as the baseline, the map prompts: "Click line to extend."
  3. Click the line object to be extended, making sure to select a position close to the baseline direction. The application will automatically extend the endpoint closer to the baseline to the baseline position. If you click a position on the line object that is far from the baseline direction, the extension will not be performed.
  4. If you need to extend other line objects to this baseline, continue clicking the line objects to be extended.
  5. To end this operation, press the ESC key on the keyboard.

    Or perform the following operation:

Click the right mouse button to end.

    Before extension After extension

Notes:

When the extended line does not intersect the baseline, the extension operation cannot be performed.
