Trim
Function Description
remove length from a line until it intersects another line.
- Trims objects using the cut edge defined by the baseline object. When using the trim tool, first select the line feature to be used for trimming (the baseline), then click on the intersecting line segment to be trimmed. The portion where the mouse clicks will be removed, i.e., trimmed off.
- Applicable for trimming objects in a line layer or line objects in a CAD layer. It also requires that the layer of the object to be trimmed is editable.
- The trim operation is only effective for line objects that intersect with the baseline; line objects that do not intersect will not be affected.
- The object to be trimmed must be a simple line object; the baseline can be a complex line object or a simple line object, but cannot be a compound object.
- When you need to continuously trim multiple line features that intersect with the same line (baseline), first select a line object as the baseline, and then continuously trim the line objects that intersect with the baseline.
Function Entry
- Edit Data Tab -> Feature Editing Group -> Line editing -> Trim the alignment -> Trim
Operation Steps
- In the Edit Data tab, from the Line editing drop-down menu, click the Trim button in the Trim the alignment group to execute the trim operation. At this point, the mouse pointer prompt in the map is: select base line.
- Select a line object as the baseline; the mouse pointer prompt changes to: click to trim.
- Select the portion of the line object you want to trim off.
After trimming is complete, the baseline remains, and the segment of the line containing the mouse click position is deleted. The system fields of the new object (except for SmUserID) are assigned by the system, while non-system fields and the SmUserID field retain the corresponding attributes of the trimmed object.
