Trim

Function Description

Remove length from a line until it intersects another line.

  • Trim objects by the cutting edge defined by the baseline object. When using the trim tool, first select the line feature (baseline) to be used for trimming, then click on the intersecting line segment to be trimmed. The part clicked by the mouse will be removed, i.e., trimmed off.
  • Applicable to trimming objects of a line layer or line objects of a CAD layer. At the same time, the layer of object to be trimmed must be editable.
  • The trim operation is only valid for line objects that intersect the baseline; no operation will be performed on non-intersecting line objects.
  • The object to be trimmed must be a simple line object; the baseline can be a complex or simple line object, but cannot be a compound.
  • When multiple line features intersecting the same line (baseline) need to be trimmed continuously, first select a line object as the baseline, then trim the line objects intersecting the baseline one after another.

Function Entry

  • Edit Data tab -> Object Editing group -> Line editing -> Trim the alignment -> Trim

Operation Steps

  1. On the Edit Data tab, in the Line editing drop-down menu, click the Trim button in the Trim the alignment group to perform the trim operation. At this point, the mouse prompt in the map is: "Select base line".
  2. Select a line object as the baseline. The mouse prompt then becomes: "Click to trim".
  3. Select the part of the line object you want to trim off.

After trimming, the baseline is retained, and the line segment containing the mouse click position will be deleted. For the new object, system fields (except SmUserID) are assigned by the system; non-system fields and the field SmUserID retain the corresponding attributes of the trimmed object.
