Basic Operations

Open Map

All maps in an opened workspace are listed under Map node in the Workspace Manager , you can open any map through two ways including Open Map and Open to the current map.

Open a map

  • Right click on your map and select Open Map to display your map in a new window.
  • In the workspace manager, double click on your map to open it in a new map window directly.
  • You can also select several maps, right click, and select Open Map to open all selected maps in map windows separately.

Open multiple maps in the same window

  • Right click on the map and select “Open to the current map” to show it in the opened map window. When draging a map into a map window, a new layer group will be added in the layer manager, and all layers of the map will be added into the new group.
  • Dragging and dropping a map into the current map window also can open mulitple maps in the same window.

Create Map

Function Entrances

  • Right click on the Maps node in the workspace manager and select New Map.
  • Click Start tab > Browse group > Maps. You can click the Map drop-down arrow to display all commands organized in the Map drop-down list and select the command you want. Or, you can click the Map icon to perform the first command in the Map drop-down list.

The commands organized in the Map drop-down list are introduced below:

New Map

Click to create a new empty map. You can add your datasets in the map window.

Add to New Map

Click to display the selected spatial data in a new map window.

  1. Select one or more datasets (using Shift or Ctrl) in the same datasource.
  2. Right-click and select Add to New Map to create a new map window and show selected spatial data.

Add to Current Map

If the current active window is a map, you can add the selected spatial data to the current window.

  1. Select one or more datasets (using Shift or Ctrl) in the same datasoure.
  2. Right-click and select Add to Current Map to add the selected datasets to the current map window.

Notes

  • A lot of operations, such as adding data, editing data, analyzing data, etc., can be performed on a map. You can save a map by firstly saving the map to a workspace and then saving the workspace. Only if you have saved both the map and the workspace where the map is located, the map can be opened for future use.
  • When closing a map, a prompt box will pop up to ask you whether you want to save the changes or not if there are unsaved changes in the map. You can click Yes to directly save the changes of an existing map.
  • When closing a map, a prompt box will pop up to ask you whether you want to save the changes or not if there are unsaved changes in the map. If it is a new map that hasn’t been saved, the Save Map as dialog box will show up for you to save the map and changes. If you want to keep the map for future use, you have to save the workspace where the map is located.

Delete Map

Deletes one or more maps from a workspace.

Function Entrances

Right click on a map in the Workspace Manager tree and select Delete.

Notes

  • You can select several maps tp delete them in bulk.
  • You can press Delete key on your keyboard to delete the selected map directly.

Rename Map

Modifies the name of a map.

Function Entrances

  • Right click on your map in the Workspace Manager and select Rename Dataset. And then enter the new name directly.
  • Open your map, right-click on the map window, and select Rename.
  • Or, you can select your map in the workspace manager and press F2 to modify its name.

Save Map

Save the current map as a new map.

Function Enrtances

Deselect all objects in the map window. Right click and select Save Map in the context menu.

  • The Save Map dialog box appears if the current map is a new map. Input a name and click OK.

The map is saved to the workspace and a new child node corresponding to the map is added to the Maps node in the Workspace Manager.

  • The unsaved changes are saved to the map if the current map already exists.

Save Map As

Save the current map as a new map.

Function Entrances

Right click a map node in the Workspace Manager tree, and click Save Map As.

The Save Map As dialog box appears. Input a name and click OK.

Sort Maps

Sorts all maps under the Maps node by name.

Right click on the Maps node in the Workspace Manager tree and click Sort By Name.
