Basic Operation

This document contains a series of operations on layouts, such as Open Layout, New Layout , Delete , and Save layouts.

Open Layout

Opens a layout in a new layout window.

Basic steps

Right click your layout node in the Workspace Manager and click Open. The selected layout will be displayed in a new layout window.

Note

  • To open several layouts at the same time, you can select several layouts with Ctrl, right click, and click Open Layout. Each of the selected layouts will be displayed in a separate layout window.
  • Some optimization and adjustment have been done to the storage of layout, and so the layout saved in the new version of can not be opened in old versions. You are allowed to export the layout as a layout template which can be opened in old versions. On the storage of layout in new version, please refer to Upgraded Layout Storage.

New Layout

supports two types of layout windows including blank layout windows and layout windows based on layout templates.

There are two function entries:

  • Click Start > Browse group > Layouts.
  • In the Workspace Manager right click the Layouts node and select New Layout.
  • In the Workspace Manager right click the Layouts node and select Load Layout Template…. You can open a layout template with the extension .ult to create a layout based on the template.

Basic steps

  • New a blank layout: Click Blank Template to open a blank layout window.
  • New a layout based on a template: All templates provided by system are listed in the window.

    1. Select a template and left-click it to preview the layout template.
    2. If there is a map or an overview map item in the template, you can select a map from the Map or Overview drop-down list in the layout template window.
    3. Click Create button to generate a layout. The application will load items like the map name, scale, geometric objects, and so on automatically.
    4. If the datasource and datasets applied by the map in the layout template are the same with that in the current workspace, the map can be completely loaded to the current layout. Otherwise, only the map control will be added and you can click the control to open the Layout Map Property panel where you can choose a map from the Map drop-down list.

Note

The New Layout feature is available no matter whether the current workspace has opened a datasource or not.

Delete Layout

Deletes one or more layouts from the current workspace.

Basic steps

  1. Right click the layout that you want to delete in the Workspace Manager and select Delete.
  2. In the confirmation box that appears, click either OK to confirm you want to delete the selected layout or Cancle to go back.

Note

  • You can delete several layouts in a batch. To do so, you only need to select several layouts using Ctrl + left click, right-click, and click Delete.
  • You can also delete one or more layouts by pressing the Delete key on your keyboard.

Rename Layout

Modifies the name of a layout.

Basic Steps

  1. Right click the layout in the Workspace Manager and select Rename.
  2. Type in a new name.
  3. Press Enter to save the new name.

Note

  • The rules to rename a layout are the same as Windows, which do not support the special characters ” \ / *? : > < ¦ , but support ” . “.
  • You can also rename a layout by pressing F2.

Sort Layouts

Sorts all layouts in the current workspace by their names.

Basic Steps

Right click on the Layouts node in the Workspace Manager and select Sort by Name.
