Drawing a Legend

Description

The Legend command allows you to insert a legend in the layout.

Operations

  1. Select a map in the layout.
  2. Click Object Operations > Drawing group > Legend.
  3. Click and drag your mouse to insert the legend of the selected map in the layout.
  4. Map: The map associated with the legend.
  5. Legend Title: The title of the legend.
  6. Columns: The number of columns of the legend. The default is 3.
  7. Legend Width: The total width of the legend.
  8. Legend Height: The total height of the legend.
  9. Position: The position of the center of the legend. Values in the X and Y text boxes indicate the coordinates of the center of the legend and they are editable. To change to position of the legend, you can directly move the legend in the layout or type the coordinates in the X and Y text boxes.
  10. BackColor: The background color of the legend. To set the BackColor for the legend, click the BackColor drop-down arrow to display the color panel, then you can either click Pick to pick a color from your screen, directly select a color from the color panel, or click More Colors… for custom settings.
  11. Font Settings: Set the text styles of the legend title, items and subitems, among which legend item indicates the legend of the vector layer, legend subitem indicates the legend of thematic map layer. Click the corresponding buttonDropDown to display the dialog box for text style settings. To know how to set text styles, please refer to how to set text styles (You can edit the Styles tab in the Uniform Label Map dialog box).
  12. Margins: The spaces between the legend and the top, bottom, left and right borders.
  13. Legend\Legend Item Visiblity: Shows the visiblity. Note: If check the thematic map layer, all the items will be added to the legend. You can also can delete one legend item.

Note

  1. You can only add a legend to a layout if there is a selected map in the layout and the map is not in focus.
  2. Drawing a legend is similar to drawing a geometric object.
