The Map group on the Layouts tab organizes a series of features for map browsing.
Focus Map
Focus a map to activate it. The feature allows you to browse it without changing other elements in the layout window.
- To focus a map, select it first and click Layouts tab > Map group > Focus Map. When a map gets focus, all commands in the Map group are available.
- When a map is in focus, you can click Focus Map again to cancel the focus.
Zoom in
Click Layouts tab > Map group > Zoom in to zoom in the focused map.
- Left-click to zoom in: Click the map in focus to zoom in the map by 2 times.
- Zoom in by dragging a rectangle: Hold down the left mouse button and drag along the diagonal to draw a temporary box, and then release the left mouse button to zoom in the map. The map will be zoomed in from the center of the temporary box by either the width, or height ratio of the map window and the box. The smaller ratio will be chosen as the zoom in factor.
Except for clicking the Zoom In button, you can also press the Z key on the keyboard to switch to the zoom in mode.
Zoom out
Click Layouts tab > Map group > Zoom out to zoom out the focused map.
- Left-click to zoom out: Click the map in focus to zoom out the map by 2 times.
- Zoom out by dragging a rectangle: Hold down the left mouse button and drag along the diagonal to draw a temporary box, and then release the left mouse button to zoom out the map in focus. The map will be zoomed out from the center of the temporary box by either the width, or height ratio of the map window and the box. The smaller ratio will be chosen as the zoom out factor.
Except for clicking the Zoom Out button, you can also press the X key on the keyboard to switch to the zoom out mode.
Zoom Free
The Zoom Free command allows you to freely zoom in/out your Layout.
Click Layouts > Map > Zoom Free to display the drop-down list, then click Zoom Free.
- Hold down the left mouse button and drag to zoom in or out the layout, then release the left mouse button and the map will be refreshed.
- White areas may exist during the zoom free operation because the layout is not instantly refreshed. For each zoom free operation, the layout is refreshed after you release the left mouse button.
- To instantly refresh the layout during the zoom free operation, please use the Instant Zoom Free command.
Full Extent
Displays the full extent of your map.
- Click Layouts > Map > Full Extent to display the full extent of the map in focus.
Besides, you can click F6 on the keyboard to refresh the map in focus.
Refresh
refresh the focused map.
- Click Layouts tab > Map group > Refresh to refresh the focused map.
Besides, you can press F5 on the keyboard to refresh the focused map.
Pan
Pan the focused map to browse map content.
Click Layouts > Map > Pan.
- In the frame of the map in focus, hold down the left mouse button and drag to move the map in focus with the mouse pointer. When you release the left mouse button, the map will be refreshed.
- White areas may exist during the pan operation because the map is not instantly refreshed. For each pan operation, the map is refreshed after you release the left mouse button.
Besides, you can press the A key on the keyboard to switch to the pan mode.
