linear symbol editor
linear symbol editor provides a place to create new 2D line symbols or edit existing 2D line symbols. In the linear symbol editor, you can easily, quickly, and accurately edit 2D line symbols through interactive interface.
Opening the Linear Symbol Editor
linear symbol editor can be opened through the line symbol selector, as detailed below. For how to open the line symbol selector, please see: Opening the Line Symbol Selector.
- In the line symbol selector, select any line symbol, then click the Edit button or double-click the left mouse button on that line symbol to open the linear symbol editor. The bottom left area of the linear symbol editor displays the subline list of the selected line symbol. Users can modify each subline separately to edit the selected symbol.
- In the line symbol selector, click the New 2D Line Symbol Button to open the linear symbol editor. At this time, the subline list in the linear symbol editor will have a default system line. Users can also add sublines to create new 2D line symbols.
Interface Composition of the Linear Symbol Editor
- Preview Area: Displays the results of the line symbols created and edited by the user in real time. The preview area provides basic preview operations to meet various preview requirements.
- Straight Line/Polyline: When the button is a straight line, the preview window displays the currently edited or created line symbol in the form of a straight line. After clicking this button, it becomes Polyline, allowing the preview window to display the current line symbol in the form of a polyline.
- Zoom In: Click this button to zoom in on the line symbol displayed in the preview window. Clicking the Zoom In button once zooms in by a certain multiple. Clicking the Zoom In button multiple times can zoom in on the line symbol in the preview window by several times.
- Zoom Out: Click this button to zoom out on the line symbol displayed in the preview window. Clicking the Zoom Out button once zooms out by a certain multiple. Clicking the Zoom Out button multiple times can zoom out on the line symbol in the preview window by several times.
- 1:1: Click this button to preview the line symbol in the preview window at a 1:1 scale.
- Display Scale Setting: Provides preset values to control the display percentage of the line symbol in the preview window, i.e., zooming in or out the line symbol by an appropriate scale.
- Width: Sets the display line width of the line symbol shown in the preview window. If a subline in the line symbol is set to a fixed line width or consists of symbols, the display line width setting is invalid for such sublines.
- Subline End Symbol Setting Area: Used to set the end symbol of the subline. For a description of the subline end symbol, please refer to the content of subline end symbols in the Composition of 2D Line Symbols .
- Symbol Properties: The symbol properties area is used to set or modify the attributes of the line symbol, including: symbol number, symbol name.
- Subline Management Toolbar: The subline management toolbar is used to manage the sublines that constitute the line symbol, including: deleting, adding sublines, moving the hierarchy of sublines, setting the type and attributes of sublines, etc. For details, please see Subline Management for Line Symbols.
- Subline List: The subline list is used to display all sublines contained in the current symbol.
- Subline Virtual-Real Mode Setting Area: Used to set the virtual-real mode of the subline to obtain richer subline types. For a description of the subline virtual-real mode, please refer to the content of Subline Virtual-Real Mode Setting in the Composition of 2D Line Symbols.
How to Use the Linear Symbol Editor
The following table categorizes the functions provided by the linear symbol editor. Each part includes several function points of the linear symbol editor. Users can use the table below to locate the usage methods of the functions they need to understand.
Function Category | Brief Introduction of Included Function Points |
Composition of 2D Line Symbols | In the linear symbol editor, line symbols are composed of sublines. Sublines can be set with virtual-real mode, subline style, and subline offset, thus combining into the final required line symbol. This mainly introduces how sublines constitute line symbols to assist in creating and editing line symbols. |
Subline Management for Line Symbols | Manages sublines in line symbols, including: deleting sublines, adding sublines, setting subline types, setting subline styles, moving subline stacking order, etc. |
Setting the Subline Virtual-Real Mode | Sets the virtual-real mode of the subline and illustrates different effects of virtual-real mode under various subline types. |
Adding an End Symbol | Adds an end symbol to the created line symbol and further sets the style of the end symbol. |
Setting the Subline Style | Sets the style of the subline, such as: subline color, line width, line cap style, connection style, etc. |
Saving Symbol Editing Results | Saves the results of symbol editing. |
