Obtaining Coordinate System via EPSG Code

Feature Description

The Coordinate System Settings dialog supports creating coordinate systems through EPSG codes. The European Petroleum Survey Group (EPSG) maintains and publishes dataset parameters for coordinate reference systems and coordinate transformation descriptions. Different combinations of existing ellipsoids, projected coordinate systems, etc., correspond to unique ID codes known as EPSG Codes in the EPSG registry, representing specific ellipsoids, units, geographic coordinate systems, or projected coordinate systems. Users can retrieve corresponding coordinate system information through EPSG codes.

Feature Entry

  • Start tab -> Data Processing group -> Projection Settings -> Projection Settings window -> New Coordinate System -> Obtain With EPSG Code.
  • Dataset context menu in Workspace Manager -> Properties -> Coordinate System option -> Reset Coordinate System... -> Projection Settings window -> New Coordinate System -> Obtain With EPSG Code.
  • Map context menu -> Properties item -> Layer Properties panel -> Coordinate System option -> Reset Coordinate System... -> Projection Settings window -> New Coordinate System -> Obtain With EPSG Code button.

Steps

  1. In the Coordinate System Settings dialog, click the New Coordinate System drop-down button and select Obtain With EPSG Code.
  2. In the Obtain via EPSG Code dialog, enter the EPSG Code. EPSG Code is a specialized parameter whose ID varies depending on different projected coordinate systems and geographic coordinate systems.
  3. Click the OK button to add the coordinate system corresponding to the EPSG code in the custom group.
