Classification by Usage Permissions
To meet different usage scenarios, SuperMap categorizes licenses into trial licenses and official licenses based on usage permissions and scope.
- Trial License: Supports free trial to help users quickly understand and experience the product.
- Official License: Authorized formal version obtained through purchase or contract signing.
You can freely experience SuperMap GIS software through trial licenses, or directly purchase and use official licenses to enjoy full product functionality. The differences are shown below:
Type | Acquisition Method | License Medium | Watermark in Mapping/Output | Commercial Use Support |
Trial License | Apply for free trial | File license, cloud license, web license | Large watermark |
Not supported |
Official License | Purchase usage duration |
File license, cloud license, web license, hardware license | Small watermark or none |
Partially supported |
Classification by License Medium
Based on license acquisition media, licenses are categorized into file licenses, public cloud licenses, private cloud licenses, and hardware licenses. Hardware licenses are only available with official license purchases.
File License
The SuperMap GIS file license supports both online and offline environments.
A 90-day trial is provided by default after installation. You can also apply for a trial license via SuperMap Online. Each computer can apply only once with a one-month trial period. For extended usage, purchase an official license.
- Usage restrictions: Only works on the activated computer.
- Application scenarios: Suitable for intranet, LAN, and offline environments.
Public Cloud License
The public cloud license (cloud license) is a modern license type usable on any internet-connected computer.
Bound to SuperMap Online accounts, it provides permanent free access to SuperMap GIS software after registration.
For official licenses, public cloud licenses have two user types: license administrators (manage permissions) and regular users (only use permissions).
- Usage restrictions:
- Requires public internet connection
- Single license concurrent usage on one computer
- Application scenarios: Suitable for internet-connected environments, dynamic cloud environments (e.g. Docker), and distributed server environments.
Private Cloud License
The private cloud license (web license) enables flexible cloud-based license allocation and management.
Apply for trial or official licenses through private cloud licensing. Each computer can apply for one trial license with a one-month validity.
- Usage restrictions: Current computer's CPU cores ≤ license center's core limit (32 cores).
- Application scenarios: Suitable for closed internal network environments.
Hardware License
Hardware licenses (via hardware dongles) provide official licenses and require driver installation. Only x86/ARM architectures are supported in Linux. SafeNet dongles are provided in two types:
- Single-machine dongle: Green U-shaped device providing single authorization on the installed computer.
- Network dongle: Red U-shaped device allowing concurrent multi-user access via network authorization:
- Same subnet: No driver required on client computers
- Cross-subnet: Requires driver installation and cross-subnet configuration
License Medium Selection
Type | Network Environment | Applicable Computers |
