Create New 3D Filling Symbol
Function Description
To enhance the realism of fill styles for planar features in 3D scenes, SuperMap provides the 3D Filling Symbol Editor for creating 3D filling symbols. Currently, this editor exclusively produces water surface styles with dynamic fill patterns that realistically simulate water surfaces.

Layers symbolized with 3D filling symbols must have their elevation mode set to non-flattened mode; otherwise the settings will not take effect.
Feature Entry
- Styles menu->Fill Style group->Fill Symbol dropdown->More Symbols...->New 3D Filling button.
- Layer Manager->Layer context menu->Object Selection Style... item->New 3D Filling button.
Steps
- Click New 3D Filling… button in the Fill Symbol Library selector menu bar;
- Configure symbol information including symbol ID and name;
- Set following parameters in Basic Settings for water surface display:
- Water Surface Brightness: Controls surface luminance. Default: 0.95, Range: [0.05-0.95], Precision: 0.01;
- Wave Frequency: Adjusts wave change rate. Default: 0.05, Range: [0.05-0.95], Precision: 0.01. Higher values increase wave frequency;
- Wave Size: Determines wave density. Default: 80, Range: [0-100]. Higher values produce denser waves;
- Wave Velocity: Sets wave direction through X/Y values. Default: X=3, Y=-3. Direction can also be selected via mouse;
- Subsurface Transparency: Adjusts water transparency. Default: 1, Range: [0-1]. Higher values decrease transparency.
- Configure advanced parameters:
- Water Color: Selects surface color;
- Reflection Ratio Upper Limit: Sets maximum reflection ratio. Default: 0.7, Range: [0.5,1.5];
- Reflection Ratio Lower Limit: Sets minimum reflection ratio. Default: 0.3, Range: [0.5,1.5];
- Reflection Ratio Exponent: Controls reflection ratio calculation. Default: 1.8, Range: [0.8,9.8];
- Set Snapshot: Captures symbol preview for library display. Adjust symbol effect in preview area, click Set Snapshot to save. Click Clear Snapshot to reset if unsatisfied.
- Click OK to save the new 3D symbol to selected symbol group.
Application Example
Scenario: Create water surface effects in Mingzhu Bay scene.
Data Description
- Mingzhu Bay scene data for overall scene composition
- Mingzhu Bay water surface 2D region dataset for water effect creation
Key Steps
- Select 2D region dataset. Two methods available:
Via Styles tab->Fill Style group->Fill Symbol dropdown->More Symbols->Click New 3D Filling in Fill Symbol Selector. - Set Water Surface Brightness (default: 0.95).
- Configure Wave Frequency to 0.1 for faster wave changes.
- Set Wave Size to 80 for dense waves in large scene.
- Set Wave Velocity to X=10 and Y=10.
- Maintain Subsurface Transparency at default 1.
- Set Water Color to light blue in Advanced Settings.
- Keep Reflection Ratio Upper Limit at 0.7.
- Maintain Reflection Ratio Lower Limit at 0.3.
- Preserve Reflection Ratio Exponent at 1.8.
