"Properties" Tab

The "Properties" tab page of the "Unique Value Thematic Map" window is mainly used to set the display parameters for the single-value objects in the current unique value thematic map.

When producing single-value thematic maps based on area layers, line layers, and point layers, the content displayed in the thematic map property window varies slightly.

  1. Expression: Used to display and set the thematic variable of the current unique value thematic map, i.e., a property field or a mathematical expression of a property field of the current layer.
    • Click the drop-down button of the combo box on the right side of "Expression:", a drop-down list showing all property fields of the current vector dataset will appear. By default, the field alias is displayed. You can switch to field names in the File tab -> Options group. For details, refer to the Preference Settings document.
    • In the drop-down list, select the thematic variable (a single property field) of the current unique value thematic map layer; the user can also click the "Expression..." item in the drop-down list to build a field expression in the "SQL Expression" dialog as the thematic variable of the unique value thematic map.
    • Reset Unique Value after Expression Changed: If this checkbox is checked, after changing the expression, the program will automatically reset the unique values, and the current unique value thematic map will be instantly mapped according to the modified thematic variable, refreshing the display effects. If unchecked, changing the expression will not reset the unique values, and after switching the expression, the new values cannot correspond to the original unique value items, and the program will render the map using the default style.
    • Custom Expression supported in point layer thematic map properties: Supports setting marker size and rotation angle for point objects. It supports manually entering specific values and also supports selecting a specific property field from the attribute table as the setting effect.
      Notes:

      When creating a thematic map for Oracle Plus or SQL Plus engine type data, the field expression can only be a field value or a field operation, such as (SmID) or (SmID + 1). Currently, setting thematic map fields by condition expressions is not supported. If the set field expression is a conditional expression, e.g., "SmID > 100", the thematic map creation will fail, and the output window will prompt "Thematic map update failed".

  2. Custom Expression: Customizes the thematic map style through field value information. For point datasets, it supports setting marker style, color, size, and rotation angle; for line datasets, it supports setting line style, color, and width; for region datasets, it supports setting fill style, foreground color, background color, and transparency.
  3. Color Scheme: The "Color Scheme:" combo box is used to display and set the color style of the current unique value thematic map.
    • Click the drop-down button on the right side of the "Color Scheme:" combo box, and select a color scheme from the drop-down list to assign different colors to each thematic value of the current unique value thematic map based on the selected color scheme.
  4. Title: Used to display and set the title of the current unique value thematic map. You can directly enter or modify the title content.
  5. Visibility Settings:
    • Click the visibility icon button on the toolbar in the middle of the "Unique Value Thematic Map" window to control the visibility of the maps corresponding to all selected thematic value items in the thematic value list.
    • Click the visibility icon in each thematic value item to control the visibility of the map corresponding to that specific item.
  6. Symbol Style Settings: The style button on the toolbar in the middle of the "Unique Value Thematic Map" window can be used to set the style of the selected thematic value items in the thematic value list. The user can also click the marker style icon in each thematic value item to open the "Style" window and set the map style for the corresponding thematic value. The functionality of the symbol style settings button differs for unique value thematic maps created from different types of vector datasets.
    • The "Symbols" button is used to set the fill style of area objects corresponding to all selected thematic values in the current unique value thematic map. Click this button, or click the area marker style icon in each thematic value item, to open the "Style" window (for specific operations, refer to Fill Symbol Style Settings). The user can set the fill style of the area objects for the selected thematic values as needed.
    • The "Line Symbol" button is used to set the line style of line objects corresponding to all selected thematic values in the current unique value thematic map. Click this button, or click the line marker style icon in each thematic value item, to open the "Style" window (for specific operations, refer to Line Symbol Style Settings). The user can set the line style of the line objects for the selected thematic values as needed.
    • When modifying the styles of multiple thematic map sub-items, you can hold down the Shift key to select the sub-items to modify, then click the "Style" button on the toolbar to open the "Change Style" dialog. Here, you can select the items to modify and make batch changes. For specific operations, see: Change Style.
  7. Add or Delete Thematic Values:
    • The add button is used to manage thematic values in the thematic map. Click the add button to open the thematic value management interface, where you can add or delete thematic values, and also add new thematic values in the dialog below. After adding, the thematic value list will be updated synchronously, corresponding to the modified thematic values.
    • The delete button is used to delete all selected thematic value items in the list. Select the thematic values to be deleted in the list, and click the delete button on the toolbar to remove the corresponding items. After deletion, the objects corresponding to the original thematic values will be displayed using the default style.
  8. Reorder Sub-items and Reverse Color Scheme:
    • Select a unique value sub-item and click the move up button to move it upward in the unique value thematic map sub-item list.
    • Select a unique value sub-item and click the move down button to move it downward in the unique value thematic map sub-item list.
    • Click the ascending button to sort all sub-items of the unique value thematic map in ascending order according to their values.
    • Click the descending button to sort all sub-items of the unique value thematic map in descending order according to their values.

      Note: You can select multiple unique value sub-items at the same time for batch movement by holding down the Shift key, and then continue holding the Shift key to move them in batches. If you release the Shift key before moving, batch movement will not be possible. After moving, the program will automatically save the new order of sub-items.

    • Click the reverse order button to adjust the color scheme in reverse order, i.e., arrange the positions of colors in the color scheme in reverse order to form a new color table.
  9. Save Color Ramp to Color Scheme Manager: Click the "Save Color Ramp to Color Scheme Manager" button to open the "Save Color Ramp to Color Scheme Manager" dialog. You can save the modified color scheme to the color scheme management library for reuse in other mapping tasks.
  10. Locate Sub-item: Select one or more thematic map sub-items in the list, right-click, and choose the "Locate" option to highlight the corresponding objects on the map. If the located object is within the current map visible bounds, it will be directly highlighted; if the object is not in the current map, the map scale will be preserved, and the located object will be displayed centered. Note: When using the locate function for thematic map sub-items, the layer must be set to selectable status.
  11. Group: Select multiple sub-items in the thematic map sub-item list, right-click, and choose the Merge Groups option to merge them into one group, allowing unified management of the group's display style and visibility. You can also use the Split Group function in the context menu to split a group back into individual sub-items.
  12. In the thematic value list, besides setting the visibility and marker style of single-value items, you can also set the unique value and title of the thematic map sub-items. Specific descriptions are as follows:
    • Value: Used to display and modify the unique value of the sub-item. You can directly edit it in the cell of the "Value" column. If the modified value already exists, the setting will be invalid and the original value will be restored.
    • Title: Used to display and modify the title of the sub-item. You can directly edit it in the cell of the "Title" column.
Notes:
  • The unique value thematic maps you create and modify can be saved as templates for use in thematic map production of other layers. For saving as a thematic map template, see: Save to Thematic Map Template Library.
  • When creating a thematic map using a template, the user can directly select a saved template from the drop-down menu of the "Template" drop-down button to apply it to other thematic map production.
  • The "Default Style" of a unique value thematic sub-item is used to display the style of items not yet added to the thematic value list.
  • If a unique value sub-item's thematic value contains spaces at the beginning, end, or middle, the spaces are also considered valid characters. For example, "unique value thematic map sub-item value" and "unique value thematic map sub-item value " (with a trailing space) are considered two different thematic values.
  • It is not supported to generate a cache using the stretch function of thematic map sub-item extensions.
