Freeze Columns

Function Description

The Freeze Columns function allows users to pin key field columns to the left side of the table when browsing or editing an attribute table. When there are many fields requiring horizontal scrolling, the frozen columns remain visible and do not scroll out of view, significantly improving the efficiency of data browsing, comparison, and editing.

Supported starting from SuperMap iDesktopX 2026 version.

Access

  • The Freeze Columns button in the context menu of the Table window.

Procedure

  1. In the opened attribute table, click the header of the column you want to freeze, or click any cell within that column. To freeze multiple columns, you can use the  Ctrl key (to select non-contiguous multiple columns) or the  Shift key (to select a contiguous range of columns) for selection.
  2. Right-click, and in the popped-up context menu, select the Freeze columns option.
  3. All selected columns that were previously unfrozen will be moved together to the leftmost side of the table and fixed. A distinct vertical separator line will appear between the frozen columns and the scrollable columns. When scrolling the table horizontally, the frozen column area remains stationary.

Unfreeze the column

Procedure

  1. Select Frozen Columns: In the attribute table, click the header of a frozen column, or click any cell within a frozen column. Supports batch selection of multiple frozen columns using the  Ctrl or  Shift keys.
  2. Execute Unfreeze: Right-click, and in the popped-up context menu, selectUnfreeze the column.

  3. View Result: The selected columns will be unfrozen, moved to the right side of the freeze separator line, and restored to normal columns that can scroll horizontally.

Note:
  • Mixed State Selection: When both frozen and unfrozen columns are selected simultaneously, the context menu will uniformly display "Freeze Columns". Clicking it will only freeze the previously unfrozen columns; the state of already frozen columns remains unchanged.
  • Visual Indicator: A clear vertical separator line is set between frozen columns and scrollable columns, serving as the most direct visual indicator to distinguish the frozen area.
