Catalog Management

Feature Description

Through catalog management, you can organize and manage workspaces, datasources, and other files. Connections to local directory, database datasources, online services, and cloud storage are also supported. The Catalog Management panel provides directory tree structure. You can create Folder Connections to commonly used folders to quickly find and open files in the directory.

The first time you start application, the Catalog Management panel opens by default. If you accidentally close this panel, you can bring up the Catalog Management panel again by checking the Catalog Management check box in the View tab -> View group. The Catalog Management panel contains the following:

  • Recently used: Including Recently opened workspaces and datasources.
  • Home: The root directory of the product package.
  • Folder Connections: Supports operations such as adding, removing local folder connections, creating and deleting datasources in connected folders.
  • Database: Supports connecting and opening databases.
  • Online Services: Supports opening and logging in online web services.
  • Cloud Storage: Supports the connection to cloud storage and directly access the directories and files in cloud storage.

Recently used

Show recently opened workspaces and datasources. Click these records to directly correspond to the file, enabling you to quickly open the recently used file.

Home

When you use the complete installation package, the Home directory will be connected to the SampleData folder under the installation folder by default. When you use the compact green installation package, the Home directory will be connected to the bin folder under the compact green package by default. You can modify the connections as needed.

Folder Connections

You can quickly access a local file folder through Add Folder Connection,as well as adding multiple folder connections, or right-click for more operations. Files under the connected directory folder will be automatically filtered and only displayed supported file types, including SuperMap file datasources (*.udb/*.udbx), external raster files (*.png, *.tif, *.img, etc.) and vector files (*.shp, *.mif, *.tab, *.dwg, etc.). You can right-click on the raster of vector file node and select Import, and then set the properties and other info of the imported data in the Import Data dialog box.

Follow these steps to create a folder connection:

  1. Select the Folder Connections node and select Add Folder Connection in the context menu; Or click the Add button in the toolbar above the Catalog Management panel.
  2. In the Select Folder dialog, browse to the folder location on a local or network computer.
  3. Click OK to establish the connection. The new connection file will be added in under the Folder Connections node, displaying as tree structure.
  4. The following operations are supported for the folders in the directory tree through the Context Menu:
    • Disconnect Folder: Click the folder node and select Disconnect Folder in the Context Menu to delete the connection info of the folder.
    • Create File Datasource: Click to create a new File Database under the folder.
    • Create Folder: You can create a new folder under this directory.
    • Open File Location: This folder will be opened in File Explorer.
    • Copy Path: Copy the address of the selected file.
    • Refresh: Refresh the connected contents.
    • Rename: You can rename folders.

Database Connections

Database datasource connection history will be recorded under the Databases node. Double-click history to open the database datasource connection dialog box. You only need to enter the password to access the datasources. You can also open the Open Database Datasource dialog from the Connect a database button in the context menu of the Databases node. Detailed instructions are as follows:

  1. Select a database and click Connect a database option in the context menu.
  2. In the Open Database Datasource dialog, select the type of database to which you want to connect and fill in the information for establishing the connection. Database connection info depends on the database platform you choose to connect to. Refer to the Open Database Datasource for detailed instructions.
  3. After successful connections, the new database-connection will be added under the database node in the directory tree.
  4. Database connection info supports Delete operation through context menu.

Online Services Connections

The Online Services node connects to Web Map Services. Use the following steps to add Online Services connections:

  1. Select the Online Services node, click the Connection Service option in the context menu, or click the Add button in the toolbar.
  2. In the Open Web Datasource dialog, select the type of datasource to connect to and fill in the information for establishing the connection. The connection info depends on the map service you choose to connect to. Refer to Open Web Datasource for detailed instructions.
  3. After successful connections, the new Web Map Service connection will be added under the Online Services node in the directory tree.
  4. The Online Services library connection info supports deleting via context menu.

Cloud Storage Connections

Cloud Storage Connections allow you for direct access to could directories and files. Currently supported services: object storage service (compatible with AWS S3 protocol object storage service) and FTP service; supported files: *.tif, *.tiff, *.img, *.ecw, *.sci, *.shp, *.gpkg, *.dbf. All connected Cloud Storage are organized under the Cloud Storage node, and the Add to and Import cloud storage connections are supported. The operation instructions are as follows:

  1. Select Add Cloud Storage Connection from the Cloud Storage node context menu.
  2. In the Cloud Storage dialog, enter the connection info as described in Cloud Storage Connection Parameter Description.
  3. After successful connections, you can view the corresponding files under Cloud Storage.
