Necessary labels on the map are essential as they not only help users distinguish geographical features, but also display certain important attributes of the features, such as administrative divisions, rivers, institutions, tourist attractions, contour lines, and more.
ArcGIS Labels
In ArcGIS, labels specifically refer to the process of automatically generating and placing descriptive text for map features. Labels can be dynamically applied to all features within a layer, or different labeling attributes can be specified for features in the same layer using label classification. The Label Manager allows the creation and management of label classifications in the map, as well as viewing and modifying the label properties and placement of all label classifications in the map.
SuperMap Labels
In SuperMap, users can easily achieve map labeling by creating label thematic maps, which correspond to labels in ArcGIS.
Label thematic maps are used to label point, line, and polygon objects with thematic values (also called labels), such as place names, road names, river grades, widths, etc. In label thematic maps, the display style and position of labels can be uniformly set, and the style of labels in a single segment or within each segment can be individually set through segmentation.
Label thematic maps have the following characteristics:
- Segmented style settings are available for label thematic maps, allowing the definition of a segmented field expression, segment mode, and segment values. Labels for elements falling within different segment ranges can be set with different styles;
- Supports text zooming with a maximum and minimum value, meaning that text will only zoom within the maximum and minimum values when the map is zoomed.
Label Avoidance Rule Support
Supports label avoidance rules. During migration, label avoidance rules and display effects will be synchronized.
- Label Priority: Label priority will affect the placement order of labels on the map. Generally, labels with higher priority will be placed first, followed by labels with lower priority. Additionally, lower priority labels that conflict with higher priority labels may be placed in a backup position or not displayed at all.
- Covering Settings: Supports various covering settings options. For more detailed information, please refer to Map Properties - Basic; also, label thematic maps support effect settings, used to adjust and control the display effects of label objects (text objects) in the label thematic map. For more detailed information, please refer to Label Thematic Map.
