There are many kinds of thematic maps, but most of them are composed of geographical basis and thematic content. Geographical basis is a part of the content elements on the ordinary map, such as longitude and latitude network, water system, residential areas, traffic lines, topography, etc. The geographic basis serves as the framework for compiling the thematic content, and indicates the geographic location of the thematic content and the relationship between the thematic content and the geographic environment. The geographic basic elements and the level of detail represented on thematic maps vary according to the thematic content.
Thematic contents can be divided into two categories according to the data. One is to display one or more elements in the contents of ordinary maps in a relatively complete and detailed manner, while other elements are placed in a secondary position or omitted, such as traffic maps. The other is to include thematic elements that are not available on ordinary maps, invisible on the ground or cannot be measured directly, such as population density maps.
ArcGIS thematic map
The thematic map of ArcGIS is made by symbolizing the map. After the map is configured, the point, line and area elements in the layer are symbolized. The Unique-values Map and Graudated Colors Map can be made by classifying the information. In addition, it also supports the production of Statistical Thematic Map, density thematic maps, scatter distribution maps, multi-attribute change maps, and thematic maps can be customized for different industries.
