Thematic Map Migration

Thematic maps come in various types, but they are mostly composed of geographical base data and thematic content. The geographical base refers to elements from regular maps, such as latitude and longitude grids, water systems, settlements, transportation lines, and terrain. The geographical base serves as the framework for the thematic content and represents the geographical location of the thematic content and the relationship between the thematic content and the geographical environment. The specific geographical elements and their detail level shown on a thematic map vary depending on the thematic content.

The thematic content can be divided into two categories based on the data: one is to display one or several elements from the regular map in a complete and detailed way while giving less importance or omitting other elements, such as in transportation maps; the other includes thematic elements not found on regular maps, or those that cannot be directly measured or seen on the ground, such as population density maps.

ArcGIS Thematic Map

ArcGIS thematic maps are created by symbolizing the map, setting up the map layers, symbolizing point, line, and polygon elements, and using information classification to create single-value thematic maps, graduated thematic maps, etc. In addition, it also supports the creation of statistical thematic maps, density thematic maps, scatter distribution maps, multi-attribute change maps, etc. Furthermore, thematic maps can be customized for different industries.

SuperMap Thematic Map

SuperMap provides functionality to create thematic maps based on vector and raster data. The supported types of thematic maps include: single-value, graduated, label, statistical, ordinal symbol, point density, custom, raster single-value, and raster graduated thematic maps. For detailed descriptions, please refer to Map Thematic Expression.

Thematic map types suitable for vector data include: single-value thematic maps, graduated thematic maps, label thematic maps, statistical thematic maps, ordinal symbol thematic maps, point density thematic maps, custom thematic maps; thematic map types suitable for raster data include: raster graduated thematic maps and raster single-value thematic maps.
