Video maps represent a novel form of cartographic expression that utilizes video spatialization as its foundation. Through computer vision technology, they integrate virtual and real elements to enable real-time geographic information visualization and intelligent geospatial analysis. After registration establishes mapping relationships with geospatial coordinates, videos can overlay GIS vector and raster data including points, lines, polygons, text, pipelines, terrains, imagery, and aerial landmarks, thereby enhancing video display effects and enriching map information.
The integration of video with GIS data mapping combines the authenticity, temporality, informational richness, and content diversity of video-enhanced GIS. Conversely, GIS enhances the spatial characteristics and informational depth of video data, allowing users to acquire more comprehensive insights while viewing maps.
Create/Open Video Map
Two methods are available to create video map windows:
- Click the Start tab -> Browse -> Video Maps.
- Workspace Manager -> Video Maps node context menu -> Create Video Map Window.
Two methods are available to open video maps:
- Double-click saved video maps under Workspace Manager -> Video Maps node.
- Double-click video datasets in Workspace Manager to open them in video maps.
Add Video & GIS Data
Video maps support adding video datasets, 2D/3D point/line/region datasets, text datasets, etc. Registered video data can be overlaid with geographic data. Users can directly drag datasets into open video maps or use the Add to New Video Map/Add to Current Video Map options in dataset context menus. Operations include layer style configuration, thematic map creation, layer order adjustment, and layer removal.
Note: Geographic coordinate system data cannot be added to video map windows.
Configure Layer Styles
Video maps support styling point, line, polygon, and text layers. Select the target layer in Layer Manager, choose Layer Style from the context menu, then configure object symbols and styles in the Selector dialog. For details, refer to the Symbol Style Settings section.
Video Map Properties
Right-click a video map and select Properties to configure:
- Display Time: Enable the checkbox to show time in the upper-right corner. Displayed time equals start time plus playback duration.
- Start Time: Set initial display time for video playback.
- Time Format: Two options: yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss (with date) or HH:mm:ss (time only).
- Display Video Parameters: Enable Video Maps -> Video Parameter Information -> Display Video Parameters to show camera intrinsic/extrinsic parameters (horizontal FOV, vertical FOV, pitch angle, yaw angle, camera coordinates) in the upper-left corner.
Video Layer Properties
- Video Valid Bounds: Configure visible boundaries to improve video registration accuracy.
