Image Fusion

Feature Description

Image fusion integrates multiple images captured at different times, from various sensor systems, with varying resolutions and spectral bands through composite transformations to generate new synthetic imagery. For instance, fusing panchromatic orthophotos with multispectral orthophotos can produce high-quality images combining superior spatial resolution and spectral resolution. This technique effectively combines the advantages of different image types, providing richer information support for subsequent analysis and applications.

Supported since SuperMap ImageX Pro 11i(2023) release.

Feature Entry

  • Imagery Tab->DOM Data Production Group->Image Fusion
  • DOM Automated Processing Flow/Ortho Data DOM Automated Processing Process Window->Image Fusion Node.

Parameter Description

Parameter Name Description Type
Data Type

Available only when initiated from Imagery Tab->DOM Data Production Group->Image Fusion.

Specifies the source of input image data with two options: Image Files and Mosaic Dataset. Default is Image Files. Use Image File List with Add, Select All, Select Reverse, Delete, and Settings functions to manage image files.

  • Add: Provides four input methods: Add File, Add Folder, Add List, Add Mosaic Data. Add Folder automatically imports all image files (including subfolders).
  • Select All: Selects all records in the list.
  • Select Reverse: Inverts current selection in the list.
  • Delete: Removes selected records from the list.
  • Settings: Manages pairing rules when panchromatic and multispectral images aren't fully matched.

Panchromatic Data Source

Available only when initiated from Imagery Tab->DOM Data Production Group->Image Fusion.

Specifies the datasource containing panchromatic image data when Mosaic Dataset is selected in Data Type.

DataSource
Panchromatic Data Specifies the mosaic dataset containing panchromatic image data when Mosaic Dataset is selected in Data Type. Read-only for workflow processes. DatasetMosaic
Multispectral Data Source

Available only when initiated from Imagery Tab->DOM Data Production Group->Image Fusion.

Specifies the datasource containing multispectral image data when Mosaic Dataset is selected in Data Type.

DataSource
Multispectral Data Specifies the mosaic dataset containing multispectral image data when Mosaic Dataset is selected in Data Type. Read-only for workflow processes. DatasetMosaic
Fusion Method

Specifies the image fusion algorithm. Default: Gram-Schmidt.

  • PanSharp: A grayscale relationship-based method using least squares to establish linear regression between multispectral and panchromatic images, minimizing color distortion. Ideal for applications requiring high spectral accuracy.
  • Gram-Schmidt: An improved orthogonal transformation method with adaptive adjustment for better spectral fidelity and spatial detail preservation.
  • CNBROVEY: Color Normalized Brovey method optimizes spectral-spatial balance through color normalization strategies.
  • HSV: Hue-Saturation-Value color space method replacing brightness component with panchromatic data. Suitable for RGB bands (8-bit data only).
  • PCA: Principal Component Analysis method replaces first principal component with panchromatic data. Balances spatial enhancement with spectral retention.
  • NND: Non-Negative Decomposition method for multi-modal data fusion through joint feature extraction (more computationally intensive).
FusionMethod
Predefined Fusion Weights Enables predefined weights for PanSharp and Gram-Schmidt methods. Unchecked uses adaptive weights. Boolean
Sharpening Factor Adjusts output image clarity. Default: 1. Double
Resampling Method Sets resampling method for fused images. Options: Nearest, Bilinear, Cubic (Default: Bilinear). See Resampling Method. ResampleMethod
Export Directory

Specifies output path for result images.

For DOM automated processing flow: Uses Processing Path from Set Image Path (read-only).

For ortho processing: Uses Processing Path from Add Orthophoto (read-only).

File
Output Format

Sets output image format. Options: Undefined, Tiff/GeoTIFF, Erdas Image, PCIDSK (Default: Tiff/GeoTIFF).

Path determination follows same rules as Export Directory.

FileType
Compression Method

Sets compression method for Tiff/GeoTIFF outputs. Default: NONE.

Path determination follows same rules as Export Directory.

CompressMethod
Add Results to Map Window

Available only when initiated from Imagery Tab->DOM Data Production Group->Image Fusion.

Enabled by default to display results post-processing.

Boolean
Create Image Pyramid Enabled by default to build pyramids using specified resampling method for better display performance. Boolean
Resampling Method Available when Create Image Pyramid is enabled. Default: Average. See Resampling Method. PyramidResampleType
Asynchronously Create Statistics Enabled by default to create statistics in background for proper image stretching. Disabling may increase processing time. Boolean
