You can set the style of area layers in two ways: via the Styles tab and the Layer Style panel.
Styles Tab
The Fill Style group in the Styles tab is used to set the fill style of area objects in the area layer. The functions in this group are only available when the selectable layer is an area layer.
The Symbols drop-down button in the Fill Style group is used to set the fill style of area objects in the area layer. This button only takes effect when the Gradient Mode in the Fill Style group is set to No Gradual Change.
The Foreground drop-down button is used to set the foreground color of symbols, which defines the fill color of the symbols themselves.
The combo box to the right of the Transparency (%) label is used to set the transparency of area objects in the area layer.
- Symbols
- Click the Symbols drop-down button to open the symbols resource list. The top part displays symbols recently used by the user, and the bottom part provides the system's default root group symbol library. You can select a symbol from the list as the symbols style for area objects in the current area layer.
- You can also click the More Symbols... button at the bottom of the symbols resource list to open the Fill Symbol Selector window and set the symbols style for area objects.
- When you select a symbols style, all area objects in the current area layer are displayed in real-time with the selected symbols style.
- Foreground
- Click the Foreground drop-down button to select a default color from the pop-up color panel or customize another color.
- The color panel lists Recent Colors.
- Transparency:
- Click this button to adjust the transparency of area objects using the slider, or enter a value directly in the text box. The transparent effect is displayed on the map in real-time.
- The transparency value ranges from 0 to 100 as an integer. A higher value indicates greater transparency: 0 means completely opaque, and 100 means fully transparent. This setting only affects the transparency of the area object fill, not the border lines.
Layer Style Panel
- Two ways to open the layer style panel:
- Double-click the area layer in the layer manager.
- Right-click the area layer in the layer manager and select the Layer Style button.
You can configure the fill style in this panel. The panel organization is similar to the Fill Symbol Selector. For detailed style descriptions, refer to Fill Symbol Style Settings.

- The current settings apply in real-time to all area objects in the entire area layer.
