"Properties" Tab

The "Properties" tab page of the "Unique Value Thematic Map" window is primarily used to set the display parameters for the single-value objects within the current unique value thematic map.

When producing single-value thematic maps based on region layers, line layers, and point layers, the content displayed in the thematic map properties window varies slightly.

  1. Expression: Used to display and set the thematic variable for the current unique value thematic map, which is a property field or a mathematical expression of property fields from the current layer.
    • Click the drop-down button of the combo box to the right of the "Expression:" item. The drop-down list displays all property fields of the current vector dataset. The default display is the field alias. You can switch to the field name in the File tab -> Options group. For details, please refer to the Preferences document.
    • In the drop-down list, select the thematic variable (a single property field) for the current unique value thematic map layer. Users can also click the "Expression..." item in the drop-down list to open the "SQL Expression" dialog to construct a field expression as the thematic variable for the unique value thematic map.
    • Reset Unique Value after Expression Changed: Check this box to automatically reset unique values after changing the expression. The current unique value thematic map will update in real-time based on the modified thematic variable and refresh the display effects.
    • Point layer thematic map properties support "Custom Expression": Supports setting the marker size and rotation angle for point objects, allowing manual input of specific values, as well as selecting a specific property field from the attribute table for the effect.
      Note:

When creating thematic maps for data with Oracle Plus or SQL Plus engine types, field expressions can only be field values or field arithmetic expressions, such as (SmID) or (SmID + 1). Conditional expressions are not currently supported for setting thematic map fields. If a conditional expression like "SmID > 100" is used, the thematic map creation will fail, and the output window will display the message "Thematic map update failed."

  2. Custom Expression: Customizes thematic map styles through field value information. For point datasets, supports setting marker style, color, size, and rotation angle; for line datasets, supports setting line style, color, and width; for region datasets, supports setting fill style, foreground color, background color, and transparency.
  3. Color Scheme: The "Color Scheme:" combo box is used to display and set the color style for the current unique value thematic map.
    • Click the drop-down button to the right of the "Color Scheme:" combo box. In the pop-up list, select a color scheme to assign different colors to each thematic value in the current unique value thematic map based on the selected color scheme.
  4. Visibility Settings:
    • Click the visibility icon button in the toolbar in the middle of the "Unique Value Thematic Map" window to control the visibility of the maps corresponding to all selected thematic value items in the list.
    • Click the visibility icon for each thematic value item to control the visibility of the map corresponding to that item.
  5. Symbol Style Settings: The styles button in the toolbar in the middle of the "Unique Value Thematic Map" window can be used to set the style for selected thematic value items in the list. Users can also click the marker style icon for each thematic value item to open the "Styles" window and set the style for the map corresponding to that thematic value. The functionality of the symbol style settings button differs for unique value thematic maps created from different types of vector datasets.
    • The "Symbols" button is used to set the fill style for region objects corresponding to all selected thematic values in the current unique value thematic map. Click this button, or click the region marker style icon for each thematic value item, to open the "Styles" window (for specific operations, see Fill Symbol Style Settings). Users can set the fill style for region objects corresponding to the selected thematic values.
    • The "Line Symbol" button is used to set the line style for line objects corresponding to all selected thematic values in the current unique value thematic map. Click this button, or the line marker style icon for each thematic value item, to open the "Styles" window (for specific operations, see Line Symbol Style Settings). Users can set the marker style for line objects corresponding to the selected thematic values.
    • When modifying the styles of multiple thematic sub-items, you can hold the Shift key to select the sub-items you want to modify, then click the "Style" setting button on the toolbar. This will open the "Change Style" dialog box, where you can select the items to modify for batch editing. For specific operations, please see: Change Style.
  6. Add or Delete Thematic Values:
    • The Add button is used to manage thematic values in the thematic map. Clicking the Add button opens the thematic value management interface, where you can add or delete thematic values, or add new thematic values in the dialog box below. After adding thematic values, the thematic value list will update synchronously to correspond with the modified values.
    • The Delete button is used to delete all selected thematic value items from the list. Select the thematic values to be deleted in the list and click the Delete button on the toolbar to remove the corresponding items. After deletion, objects originally corresponding to the deleted thematic values will be displayed using the default style.
  7. Sub-Item Sorting and Reverse Color Scheme:
    • Select a single-value sub-item and click the Move Up button to move the sub-item of the unique value thematic map upwards.
    • Select a single-value sub-item and click the Move Down button to move the sub-item of the unique value thematic map downwards.
    • Click the Ascending Order button to sort all sub-items of the unique value thematic map based on their values in ascending order.
    • Click the Descending Order button to sort all sub-items of the unique value thematic map based on their values in descending order.

Note: Supports selecting multiple single-value sub-items for batch movement. You can hold the Shift key to select multiple single values, then continue holding the Shift key to perform batch movement. If you release the Shift key before moving, batch movement will not work. The program will automatically save the order of the single-value sub-items after movement.

    • Click the Reverse Order button to adjust the color scheme in the opposite order, meaning the positions of colors in the color scheme are reversed to form a new color table.
  8. Save Color Ramp to Color Scheme Manager: Click the "Save Color Ramp to Color Scheme Manager" button to open the corresponding dialog box. This allows you to save the modified color scheme to the color scheme management library for reuse in other mapping tasks.
  9. Sub-Item Locate: Select one or more thematic map sub-items in the list, right-click the mouse, and choose the "Locate" option. This will highlight the corresponding objects in the map. If the located objects are within the current map's visible bounds, they will be highlighted directly. If they are not in the current map, the map scale will be maintained, and the display will be centered on the located objects. Note: To use the thematic map sub-item locate function, the layer must be set to a selectable state.
  10. Group: Select multiple sub-items in the thematic map sub-item list, right-click the mouse, and select the Merge Groups option to combine multiple sub-items into one group. This allows for unified management of the group's display style and visibility. Alternatively, you can use the Split Group function in the context menu to split a group back into individual sub-items.
  11. In the thematic value list, besides setting the visibility and marker style for single-value items, you can also set the single value and title for thematic map sub-items. Specific explanations are as follows:
    • Single Value: Used to display and modify the single value of a sub-item. You can directly edit and modify it in the cell of the "Single Value" column. If the modified single value already exists, the setting will be invalid and the original value will be restored.
    • Title: Used to display and modify the title of a sub-item. You can directly edit and modify it in the cell of the "Title" column.
Notes:
  • All unique value thematic maps you create or modify can be saved as templates for application in creating thematic maps for other layers. For details on saving as a thematic map template, please see: Save to Thematic Map Template Library.
  • When creating a thematic map using a template, users can directly select a saved template from the drop-down menu of the "Template" drop-down button and apply it to the creation of other thematic maps.
  • The "Default Style" for unique value thematic sub-items is used to display the style of items not yet added to the thematic value list.
  • If the thematic value of a single-value sub-item contains spaces at the beginning, end, or in the middle, the spaces are considered valid characters. For example, "unique value thematic map sub-item value" and "unique value thematic map sub-item value " (the latter has a trailing space) are treated as two different thematic values.
  • Generating cache using the stretch function in thematic map sub-item extensions is not supported.
