As the portal platform of cloud GIS, SuperMap iPortal supports integrating services from multi-source heterogeneous servers to manage them unitedly and only exposes one unified access exit. In addition, the services by publishing the hosted data (ie., hosted services) will also be registered into the portal. Note: If the administrator enables the Service review function, the newly added services can't be searched and used until they passed the review.

The services registered to iPortal can be used in various built-in WebApps or called by other Web GIS applications. The following introduces the service registration function and how to use the service resources in iPortal.

Service registration

To register a service in iPortal, the user is required to be the type of "Creator" and has the role of service registration permission, such as PORTAL_USER, DATA_CENTER (the division of user type and permission in iPortal, see: Role, User Type and Permissions).

To manage the registered multi-source services in iPortal unitedly to provide a united service access address, and at the same time to protect the original service address, iPortal provides the Service Proxy function (iPortal enables the built-in service proxy, you can also configure to use the standalone service proxy package). iPortal defaults to using the HTTP protocol to start the service proxy; which means even if the original service uses the HTTPS protocol, the proxied address still uses the HTTP protocol. To use the HTTPS protocol to start the service proxy, please refer to: Configure to use the HTTPS protocol to start service proxy.

Supported service types

iPortal supports to register SuperMap REST services, ArcGIS REST services, and OGC services. Table 1 below shows the supported registered service type and service address format.

Register steps

Log in to iPortal, click "Resource Center" > "Services" to enter the service resource page, click "Register Service" on the right to enter the registration page, and perform the following operations;

  1. Select service type
  2. Fill in the service address. See: The supported registered service type and service address format in SuperMap iPortal
  3. Fill in the service name
  4. To register a protected service, you should check the "Specify Credentials" checkbox and select the matched credential from the drop-down list. If you haven't created the corresponding credential, click Add Credentials at the bottom of the drop-down list to complete the creation process.
  5. Specify the storage directory for the service (optional):

If your administrator has enabled and configured a custom catalog for service resources in the portal, you can add registered services to the custom catalog. It should be noted that the same service can be added to different directory structure trees, but in a directory structure tree, the same service can only be added once.

  6. Set the service's meta info:

    iPortal can automatically parse the service's meta-information, such as: tags, description, service reference system (coordinate system and projection type), service identifier (coverage area), service range, service providers, etc., basic information. If some meta-information is not parsed out, you can manually add them. When finish, click "Next";
  7. Set sharing settings:

The default sharing setting is public search, ie., all the iPortal users (includes the anonymous users) can retrieve the service. You can also set to public view -- all the iPortal users (includes the anonymous users can view the service), private -- all others (except the owner) can't retrieve or access, designated departments (department function is disabled by default)-- the members in designated departments can retrieve and access the service, designated groups -- the members in designated groups can retrieve and access the service, or designated users -- besides the owner, the designated users can also retrieve and access the service. For details, see: Share service.

  8. Click the "Register" button to finish the service registration.

When registering servcie, it will detect whether the service is truly available. If the servcie is not available, registration is not supported. The only difference is that when registering "other" types of service, the servcie online detection can be disabled, which also allows the user to customize the servcie address to be detectd.

The registered service item will be displayed on the Resource Center > Service > My Service page. On the "My Service" page, you can see the service's availability state (the registered services support online/offline dynamic verification, the default update time is 30 minutes. Administrators can modify this configuration item, see: Set update time interval for registered services), view/edit the detailed information, modify the sharing scope, delete the resource, or update service address and meta information.

iPortal also provides SuperMap iServer service batch registration function for the administrators, see: Service batch registration.

Additionally, if the administrator enables the Service Review function (disabled by default), the registered services in iPortal will automatically be in the "Pending Review" state (includes the automatically registered services when published the hosted data as services), and the registration will succeed only when the administrator approves the review. To set sharing settings for an unapproved service will not take effect.

Note:

  • The same login user is not allowed to register the same service address repeatedly.
  • iPortal doesn't support to parse the meta information of WFS2.0.0 and above, WCS1.1.1 and above.
  • If the coordinate system in the parsed meta-info appears some abnormal values, such as -1000, that indicates the coordinate system is a user-defined system.

View Maps in a Service

Supports viewing maps in MapStudio WebApp. How to: Go to the map service details page, switch to the "Map List" tab, and click the map URL to view the map in a new window.

Edit Maps in Service

Supports online modification of map styles in vector tile services published through restjsr services. The operation steps are as follows:

  1. Publish a restjsr service in iServer
  2. In the iserver-service.xml file under the path [iServer installation directory] / webapps / iserver / WEB-INF, configure <styleContentsStorageRoot>{directory for saving expression-based styling changes}</styleContentsStorageRoot>
  3. In iPortal Management page > Services, configure the hosted server iServer
  4. In iPortal Resource Center > Services, register the restjsr service of the hosted server iServer
  5. Enter the vector tile service details page, switch to the "Map List" tab, and click "Edit Map" on the right side of the map to enter MapStudio WebApp and edit the map styles of the vector tile service online. Supports adding existing layers in the current map, deleting layers, and modifying layer styles through expression-based styling, that is, styling by different levels, data ranges, and data conditions.
  6. After editing is complete, clicking "Save" saves the edited content of the map in the current vector tile service. Clicking "Save As" saves the map as a new map in the current vector tile service.User edits to maps in the service are saved to the service itself, rather than saved as map resources in iPortal.

Expression-Based Styling

  1. Select the layer style type, click the icon to enable expression-based styling, and in the pop-up window select one of the following expression types:
  • By level: Set different styles according to the map zoom level, thereby achieving dynamic changes in map styles at different zoom levels. For example, when the zoom level is small, highlight urban main roads; when zoomed in, clearly display the styles of all secondary roads and branch roads.
    • Function type: Define the transition mode of layer styles when zooming between different zoom level nodes.
      • Linear interpolation: Style attribute values change uniformly and linearly with changes in the zoom level.

      • Exponential interpolation: Control the rate of change through a base value. The closer the base value is to 1, the closer the effect is to linear interpolation. If the base value is greater than 1, attribute values change faster in the latter half of the zoom level. If the value is between 0 and 1, attribute values change faster in the first half.

      • Bezier interpolation: Generate a smooth Bezier curve by defining four control points, thereby precisely controlling the pace of attribute value changes, and is used to achieve highly customized, nonlinear transition effects.

      • Step function: Directly jump to the corresponding style value according to the interval of the zoom level, suitable for scenarios that require clear, discrete style changes.

    • Nodes: Configure the mapping relationship between map zoom levels and layer styles, consisting of a series of [zoom level, style value] pairs. When the map zooms, styles change between these nodes.
  • By data range: Set style gradients according to data field ranges, suitable for visualizing continuous data. For example, based on population density values, area colors transition from light to dark.
    • Data field: Select the data field used to drive style changes.
    • Function type: Define the transition mode of layer styles when data field values change. This is consistent with the function types in the "By level" driven styling method.
    • Nodes: Configure the mapping relationship between data field values and layer styles, consisting of a series of [data value, style value] pairs, defining the mapping relationship from data values to style values.
  • By data condition: Set different styles according to data condition matching, suitable for applying different styles based on data classification. For example, highways are displayed in red, and ordinary roads are displayed in gray.
    • Data field: Select the data field used for condition evaluation.
    • Condition: Configure the logical expression of the mapping relationship between data conditions and layer styles, consisting of a series of [condition, value, style] pairs.
    • Other values: Configure a default style for features that do not meet any condition.
  1. Clicking "Add Node" (or "Add Condition") adds a new node (or condition) to the current segment, enabling finer control over style changes. Clicking "Clear" resets the data-driven style to its initial state, and you need to reselect the expression type.

  2. Data-driven expressions support nesting (up to two levels). Click the on the right side of the condition to configure the next-level expression. The configuration method is the same as that of the first level. For example, the first level sets different styles by level, and the second level matches different styles by data condition. That is, after the zoom level is greater than a certain level, different colors and widths are set according to road classification.

Expression-based styling supports editing in the UI panel and JSON panel:

  • When the layer style does not conform to the Mapbox style specification, it can only be edited through the UI panel, and the layer style cannot be modified through the JSON panel
  • When the layer style conforms to the Mapbox style specification and is compatible with the visualization rules of the UI panel, you can switch between the UI panel and the JSON panel at any time for editing
  • When the layer style conforms to the Mapbox style but the style logic is relatively complex, it can only be edited through the JSON panel, and the layer style cannot be modified through the UI panel

Use the service resources in iPortal

The services (including registered services and hosted services) in iPortal can be used as the data source in built-in WebApps, and can also be called by the user-developed Web GIS system. Specifically:

  • In the DataViz WebApp: After choosing the basemap, you can search and add the REST map service and data service in "My services" as layers to the basemap; if you add a REST data service, you can continue to make the thematic map based on the layer.

  • In the MapStudio WebApp: After choosing the basemap, you can add SuperMap REST services, OGC WMTS services, and OGC WMS services from the Web and portal as layers to the basemap. If the added layer is from a REST data service, you can create the thematic map based on the layer.

  • In the DataInsights WebApp: You can add the REST map service or REST data service, and use maps or charts to display and express the data in the service. And in the map view, you can also use the analysis function to explore the law and value of the data at a deeper level.

  • In the iEarth WebApp: You can add the published REST 3D service to the scene as a layer, add point, line, or region features in the scene, or perform measure, query or analysis function, etc.

  • In the MapDashboard WebApp, you can use the public data, my data, iServer REST services as the data source of the visual components. For details, see: Add visual components.

  • In your Web GIS system, to call the services in iPortal, see: Use iCient JavaScript to call the resources of iPortal.
