Data Configuration - Borehole Trajectory is used to import borehole trajectory files into the current geological modeling project. The borehole trajectory records information such as the inclination angle and azimuth angle of the borehole at different measurement depths, describing the actual trend of the borehole in three-dimensional space.

In the Data Configuration dialog box, you can select the Borehole Trajectory_Inclination data type, add *.dev trajectory files, and configure the internal data fields, external data column positions, and whether to import through the Data Field Configuration table. The bottom of the dialog box provides a file preview to check whether the column positions match the file content.

Application Scenarios

  • Import borehole trajectory data described by measurement depth, inclination angle, and azimuth angle into a geological modeling project.
  • Provide actual spatial trajectories for borehole stratification data.
  • Use borehole trajectories to assist in stratigraphic and fault correction during structural modeling.

Function Condition Description

  • The project area has been configured, and a data source for storing project data has been specified in the Geological Modeling tab.
  • A borehole trajectory file has been prepared, commonly in *.dev format.
  • The trajectory file must contain fields such as measurement depth, inclination angle, and azimuth angle, and the field column positions should correspond to the preview content.
  • If the trajectory file name is the borehole name, the borehole can be matched by file name; otherwise, the file must contain a borehole name field that is consistent with the already imported borehole collar data.

  • Geological Modeling tab -> Configuration group -> Data Configuration button -> Data Configuration dialog box Borehole Trajectory_Inclination

Operation Instructions

  1. In the Geological Modeling tab, after configuring the geological modeling project data source and project area, click the Data Configuration button to open the Data Configuration dialog box. In the data type list on the left, select Borehole Trajectory_Inclination.
  2. In the file type drop-down list, select Borehole trajectory file (*.dev)|dev. Add the *.dev files to be imported. Multiple trajectory files can be added at once, and the file list will display the paths of the files to be imported. If you need to remove a file, select it in the file list and use the delete button to remove it.
  3. Configure the data fields in the Data Field Configuration table, including Measurement Depth, Inclination Angle, Azimuth Angle, and Borehole Name fields.
    • Based on the column positions in the preview table below, set the corresponding External Data Column Position for Measurement Depth, Inclination Angle, and Azimuth Angle. For example, map Measure_Depth to Measurement Depth, Inclination to Inclination Angle, and Azimuth to Azimuth Angle.
    • In the Import column, check the fields you want to import. Measurement Depth, Inclination Angle, and Azimuth Angle are key fields for importing borehole trajectory data.
    • If the trajectory file name is the borehole name, the Borehole Name field does not need to be imported; if the file name is not the borehole name, or if a single file contains data for multiple boreholes, check and map the Borehole Name field.
      Field Description
      Measurement Depth The measured depth from the borehole platform to the sampling point along the borehole trajectory.
      Inclination Angle The deflection angle of the borehole trajectory relative to the vertical direction.
      Azimuth Angle The angle of the borehole trajectory projected onto the horizontal plane.
      Borehole Name The name or ID of the borehole, used to match with the borehole collar data in the project. If the file name already represents the borehole name, this field does not need to be imported.
  4. In the preview table at the bottom, check the file column names and field content to ensure the column positions, field names, and data values are consistent with the configuration.
  5. After confirming the file and field configuration are correct, click OK to import. If you want to discard the current configuration, click Cancel.
  6. Once the borehole trajectory data is imported, the system will prompt: "The borehole trajectory data has been imported. Do you want to extract the project area?"
    • Click OK to extract the project area based on the imported borehole trajectory data.
      • After confirmation, check the current project area in the project area settings panel on the right, including Left, Bottom, Right, Top, Minimum Elevation, and Maximum Elevation.
      • Confirm the range is correct, then click Save and Apply to save the project area to the current project.
    • Click Cancel to keep the current project area settings.
Notes:
  • Measurement Depth, Inclination Angle, and Azimuth Angle must be assigned valid external data column positions; otherwise, the trajectory data cannot be imported correctly.
  • If the borehole trajectory file name is the borehole name, the Borehole Name column may be omitted; otherwise, the Borehole Name column must be selected and imported.
  • Before importing, ensure that the depth unit, angle unit, and azimuth angle convention are consistent with the project data.
  • When importing multiple files, ensure that the field structure is consistent across different files to avoid the same field being mapped to different columns.
