Extract Centerline from Two Lines

Function Description

Extract Centerline from Two Lines refers to extracting the center line between two non-closed double lines according to the given width and saving the result as Line Dataset. The Extract Centerline from Two Lines is mostly used for Road Line Data, and the extraction effect is better when the two lines are parallel or nearly parallel.

Function entrance

  • Data tab-> Data Processing-> Vector-> Center Line of Double Lines.
  • Toolbox-> Data Processing-> Vector-> Center Line of Double Lines.

Parameter Description

  • Source Data: Set the Line Dataset to be Extract Center Line and the Datasource.
  • Maximum width: The maximum width between two lines of Extract Center Line (greater than 0). The default value is 30. The unit is the same as Source Dataset. The user can measure the maximum width of the double line in the map by clicking the button on the right. It is recommended that the maximum width set by the user is slightly larger than actual measured distance, so that the extracted results will be more accurate.
  • Minimum Width: The minimum width between two lines of Extract Center Line (Greater than or equal to 0). When the distance between two lines is less than minimum width, the center line at this point will not be extracted. The default value is 0, and the unit is the same as Source Dataset.
    Caution:

The maximum and minimum widths correspond to the Source Dataset units. The maximum width must be greater than 0, and the maximum width must be set. Centerlines are extracted when the double-line width is between the maximum and minimum; no Extract Center Line when the double-line width is less than minimum; and boundary lines are extracted when the double-line width is greater than maximum.

  • Result Data: Set the Datasource and Dataset Name stored in Result Data.

In the extracted centerline Dataset Properties table, the Attributes of the source double-line data will be retained, and Field will distinguish the line objects on the left and right sides of the centerline by L and R.

Caution:
  • This function is applicable to non-closed Line Dataset. If the double line is closed, it is necessary to break one end of the double line and leave an opening.
  • The setting of the maximum width between
  • two lines will affect the accuracy of Result Data, and the user needs to accurately input the maximum width value.
  • The extraction results may not be ideal
  • for the complex intersections in the double-lane road, such as overpasses, five forks and six forks.
