Feature Description
The Append Features function allows adding existing feature object dataset information to newly created or existing feature object datasets, enabling batch addition of feature objects. The appended dataset is determined by the specified feature object code (or abbreviation) and the object type of the recordset to be appended. If the specified target feature object dataset does not exist, a new dataset can be created within the group and records can be appended.
Append Features is used to rapidly add large quantities of feature objects, suitable for scenarios requiring dataset expansion or updates. For example, when creating new chart groups or updating existing chart data, appending feature datasets can enhance efficiency while ensuring data integrity and consistency.
Steps
- In the Workspace Manager, select the editable chart group to which features need to be appended. Navigate to the Chart Tab -> Chart Data Management group -> click the Append Features button to open the Append Feature Dataset dialog.
- Click the Add button on the dialog toolbar to enter the Select Feature Dataset window. Select the datasource and dataset on the left panel, choose the dataset to append from the right list, then click OK to confirm.
- Click Object Type and specify the object type of the recordset to append from the dropdown. Click the Field Settings button to open the field settings window. In this window, target fields will display mandatory fields based on the target object type, while source fields will automatically match target field names. If source fields don't match target fields, double-click the source field to select corresponding fields.
- Select the target Datasource and editable Chart Group. The checkbox The feature dataset is automatically created when it does not exist. is selected by default. If no corresponding feature object dataset exists in the group, a new one will be created; otherwise, data will be merged into the existing dataset.
- Click OK to add objects from the recordset to the target dataset. Open the chart group in the map to view append results. Example: When appending a point dataset as depth features, map the Z field from the point dataset to the depth field of depth features. The result is shown below:
