NoData Handling Steps for Mosaic Dataset

Default NoData in Mosaic Dataset

In the Mosaic Dataset attribute panel, the NoData values for each band of imagery are listed. Typically, all bands share the same NoData value, which defaults to match the NoData value of the first image added to the Mosaic Dataset.

Below are scenarios for default NoData values in Mosaic Dataset:

  • If the first image file in the Mosaic Dataset contains NoData information, the Mosaic Dataset's NoData will default to this value.
  • If the first image file lacks NoData information, the software detects whether there are NoData areas. If present, the corresponding raster value becomes the default NoData for the Mosaic Dataset.
  • If the first image file has neither NoData information nor NoData areas, the Mosaic Dataset's NoData defaults to the maximum valid value of the image data type. For example: 65535 for 16-bit unsigned images.

Modifying Mosaic Dataset NoData

Since the default NoData value is derived from the first image, potential issues may arise if this image has missing or incorrect NoData information. To correct erroneous defaults, refer to: View Mosaic Dataset Properties

Enabling Mosaic Dataset NoData

After modifying NoData values, check Replace Missing No-Value to activate the new settings. To override incorrect NoData information in all image files, also check Replaces all images with no value. Click Apply to finalize all changes.
