Using Layer Group

Function Description

The layer group function can be used to group layers for unified control of display, editability, visible scale range, etc., for all layers in the layer group. Layer groups can also contain other layer groups.

Creating Layer Group

Three methods are provided to create a layer group:

  • Method 1: Select the New button in the layer manager toolbar to create a blank layer group;
  • Method 2: Select New from the context menu in the blank area of the layer manager or an existing layer group to create a blank layer group;
  • Method 3: Select Move to Group->New Group from the context menu of one or more selected layers in the layer manager to create a group containing the selected layers;

Moving Layers to Group

Two methods are provided to add layers to an existing group:

  • Method 1: In the layer manager, select one or more layers or layer groups, drag them to a layer group, and add the selected layers or layer groups to the specified layer group.
  • Method 2: In the layer manager, select one or more layers or layer groups, and use the Move to Group function in the context menu to add them to a specified layer group.
Note:
  • You cannot select multiple layers/groups across layer groups, meaning you cannot simultaneously select multiple layers/groups from layer group A and layer group B at the same level.
  • Copying layer groups in the layer manager is supported to copy multiple layers as a group.

Layer Group Properties

Layer group is used to manage all layers under the group. View the attributes of a layer group by clicking the properties button in the layer group context menu.

  • Visible: If the Visible checkbox is checked, all layers under the selected layer group are visible; if not checked, all layers under the selected layer group are invisible.
  • Layer Name: Displays the name of the selected layer group. The layer group name cannot be modified; it uniquely identifies the layer group in the map where the group is located.
  • Layer Caption: Displays the title of the selected layer group. The layer group title can be modified; after modification, the display name in the layer manager changes, but the layer group name remains unchanged.
  • Minimum Visible Scale: The combo box is used to set the minimum visible scale for all layers in the layer group. After setting the minimum visible scale for the layer group, if the map scale is smaller than this value, all layers in the layer group become invisible. Enter a scale value such as 1:500000 in the numeric adjustment box to the right of Minimum Visible Scale, or set the current map scale as the minimum visible scale. Alternatively, click the drop-down button on the right to select a scale setting as the minimum visible scale; the dropdown options include eight default scales from 1:5000 to 1:1000000. If fixed scales are set for the map, the dropdown options will be the fixed scales.
  • Maximum Visible Scale: The combo box is used to set the maximum visible scale for all layers in the layer group. After setting the maximum visible scale for the layer group, if the map scale is larger than this value, all layers in the layer group become invisible. Enter a scale value such as 1:500000 in the numeric adjustment box to the right of Maximum Visible Scale, or set the current map scale as the maximum visible scale. Alternatively, click the drop-down button on the right to select a scale setting as the maximum visible scale; the dropdown options include eight default scales from 1:5000 to 1:1000000. If fixed scales are set for the map, the dropdown options will be the fixed scales.
