Edit Marker Symbols

Marker symbols managed in the Marker Symbol Selector can be further edited to meet new requirements. Marker symbols in the library can be categorized into three types: 2D vector marker symbols, 2D raster marker symbols, and 3D markers. Each type has its dedicated editing environment: 2D vector marker symbols are modified in the Marker Symbol Editor, while 2D raster marker symbols are adjusted in the Raster Symbol Editor.

To edit marker symbols in the library:

  1. First, select the marker symbol to edit in the Marker Symbol Selector;
  2. Then, click the Edit button in the selector, or double-click the target symbol with the left mouse button to launch the corresponding editor;
  3. After completing edits in the editor, click OK to confirm. Note that different symbol types will open distinct editors with varying editing options, as explained below.

Editing 2D Vector Marker Symbols

When selecting a vector marker symbol in the Marker Symbol Selector and clicking Edit, the Marker Symbol Editor will open with the selected symbol loaded. Use the editor's tools to modify the symbol as needed, then click OK to save changes. For detailed editing instructions, refer to the Marker Symbol Editor guide.

Note: Edits to marker symbols are permanently saved only when the symbol library file or the workspace containing the library resources is saved.

Editing 2D Raster Marker Symbols

Editing operations for raster marker symbols include modifying attributes like symbol ID, symbol name, and symbol origin (anchor point).

  1. Select the target raster marker symbol in the selector;
  2. Click Edit or double-click the symbol to open the Raster Symbol Editor;

    Here you can modify the symbol's ID, name, and adjust the origin position.

  3. Click OK after completing edits.

The symbol origin (anchor point) determines the central position of the raster symbol during point feature symbolization, aligning with the feature's geographic coordinates.

To adjust the origin:

  1. In the Raster Symbol Editor, click Set Origin;
  2. Move the cursor to the desired position in the editing area and click to set the new origin.

Additionally, specific colors in raster symbols can be made transparent. Click the Transparent Processing button, then select the target color in the symbol to convert its covered areas to transparency.
