Volumetric Cloud Settings

Instructions for use

Volumetric cloud technology simulates the physical properties of cloud layers to achieve realistic 3D cloud effects. You can adjust dynamic effects by modifying parameters such as wind speed, wind direction, thickness, and cumulus cloud coverage.

Function Access

  • Scene tab->Properties group->scene properties button->scene properties panel->Weather option->Volumetric Cloud module

Operation Steps

  1. Open an existing scene or create a new scene. Click the Scene tab->Properties group->scene properties to open the scene properties panel.
  2. Locate the Volumetric Cloud module under the Sky&Weather option. Set parameter values as needed to achieve the desired cloud effect.
    • Enable: Controls whether volumetric clouds are enabled via the checkbox. Default is unchecked.
    • Quality: Only supported by 3D Scene Rendering Engine V2. Use the dropdown menu to set volumetric cloud rendering quality, balancing precision and performance. Options include Low, Medium, and High. Default is Medium.
      • Low: Moderate rendering quality with minimal performance consumption.
      • Medium: Better rendering quality with moderate performance consumption.
      • High: Optimal rendering quality with maximum performance consumption.
    • Cloud Cover: Only supported by 3D Scene Rendering Engine V2. Controls the proportion of sky covered by clouds. Range: [0.1,1.0], default 0.5. Higher values indicate greater cloud coverage.
    • Density: Only supported by 3D Scene Rendering Engine V2. Sets the density coefficient for cumulus clouds (low-altitude clouds). Range: [0.0,1.0], default 0.35.
    • Height: Only supported by 3D Scene Rendering Engine V2. Defines the vertical position of cloud layers. Range: [1000,10000] meters, default 1500.
    • Thickness: Only supported by 3D Scene Rendering Engine V2. Determines the vertical depth of cloud layers, affecting light projection and scattering. Range: [200,50000] meters, default 6000.
    • Wind Direction: Controls cloud movement paths. Range: [0,360], default 0 (due north). Combined with wind speed to simulate dynamic cloud flow.
    • Wind Speed: Controls cloud flow velocity. Range: [0,500], default 50.
    • High-level Clouds: Only supported by 3D Scene Rendering Engine V2. Toggles display of high-level clouds (cirrus) via checkbox. Default is unchecked.
  3. Click the Reset Defaults button to restore adjusted parameters to system defaults.
