Auto Generate Polygon

Feature Description

Auto Generate Polygon is used to quickly fill closed blank areas during map editing, reducing manual tracing work and improving the efficiency of polygon feature collection and editing.

This function identifies closed areas based on the boundaries of polygon features within the current map visible bounds and constructs new polygon objects in the specified editable polygon layer. Users can generate polygon objects from gaps between layers, gaps within a layer, or island/hole areas without manually drawing the area boundaries.

Application Scenarios

  • DLG Data Production: Different land types correspond to different layers. After workers finish drawing surrounding land types, closed blank areas can be generated as corresponding land-type polygon objects to complete the data results.
  • Natural Resources Editing Data: When polygon features such as artificial green spaces, ponds, and woodlands form closed areas, un-drawn land-type polygon objects can be quickly generated to support subsequent attribute assignment and quality inspection.

Feature Conditions

  • At least one editable polygon layer must exist in the Layer Manager.
  • The target location must be a recognizable closed blank area. Non-closed gaps, open areas, or areas where a complete boundary cannot be identified within the current map visible bounds cannot automatically generate polygon objects.
  • The generated polygon object belongs to the currently specified editable polygon layer.

Version Information

The Auto Generate Polygon feature is available starting from SuperMap iDesktopX 2026.

Function Entry

  • Edit Data Tab > Object Editing Group > Face Editing Drop-down Button > Hole Treatment Group > Auto Generate Polygon Button
  • Face Editing Toolbar > Auto Generate Polygon Tool

Operation Instructions

  1. In the Layer Manager, select an editable polygon layer as the current editing layer.
  2. Click the Auto Generate Polygon button, or press the Ctrl+Shift+F shortcut key to enable the function.
  3. In the map, move the mouse to the closed blank area where you want to generate a polygon object. After enabling the function, the mouse pointer changes to a positioning state and displays the prompt "Please click to close the gap area to auto generate polygon".
  4. Click the target closed area.
    • Closed Area: The system automatically generates a polygon object that matches the boundary of the closed area and adds it to the current editing layer. After generation, the Output Window displays "Auto generate polygon operation successful", and the generated polygon object is selected by default.
    • Non-closed Area: The system does not generate a polygon object, and the Output Window displays "Within the current map display range, no closed area is detected at this location, and the automatic generated surface operation cannot be performed."
  5. To continue generating other polygon objects, click other closed blank areas; to end the operation, switch to another editing tool or end the current editing state.

Notes:
  • The complete boundary of the target closed area must be within the current map visible bounds or within the system's queryable range. If the gap is too large or the boundary extends beyond the current map visible bounds, the Auto Generate Polygon operation may not be performed.
  • For areas with abnormal shapes, complex boundary relationships, or data errors, it is recommended to correct the data boundary first before performing the Auto Generate Polygon operation.
