Mosaic Dataset No-Value Operations

Mosaic Dataset No-Value Operation Instructions

In the mosaic dataset properties panel, the no-value for the mosaic dataset lists the no-value for each band of the image. Typically, the no-value for all bands in the image is the same. The no-value has a default value, which is equal to the no-value of the first image added to the mosaic dataset.

Below are several default no-value scenarios for a mosaic dataset:

  1. If the first image file in the mosaic dataset contains no-value information, the mosaic dataset no-value defaults to this no-value.
  2. If the first image file in the mosaic dataset does not have no-value information, the program checks for any no-value areas. If no-value areas are found, the corresponding raster value is used as the default no-value for the mosaic dataset.
  3. If the first image file in the mosaic dataset does not have no-value information and contains no no-value areas, the mosaic dataset no-value defaults to the maximum valid value for the image data type. For example, for a 16-bit unsigned image, the maximum valid value is 65535.

Modify Mosaic Dataset No-Value

Since the mosaic dataset no-value default is extracted from the first image’s no-value, there may be cases where the first image lacks no-value information or has incorrect no-value data. In such cases, the default value is incorrect and needs to be modified. For modification instructions, see: View Mosaic Dataset Properties.

Enable Mosaic Dataset No-Value

After modifying the mosaic dataset no-value, you need to check the box to replace missing no-values in the image. The new no-value will take effect. If you need to use the mosaic dataset no-value to replace incorrect no-value information in the image file, you also need to check the box to replace all image no-values. After completing all modifications, click the Apply button to make the settings take effect.
