Chart Production

Chart data production consists of five key processes to ensure the creation and sharing of high-quality electronic chart data compliant with S-57, CJ-57, and IENC standards: 1) Data preprocessing; 2) Create chart group; 3) Chart data processing; 4) Chart data validation; 5) Chart data sharing.

Data Preprocessing

Before chart production, spatial data should be organized and standardized through:

  • Multi-source data integration: Supports over 100 data formats including vector, raster, model, and online map, with coordinate transformation, data registration, and type conversion capabilities.
  • Land/water data extraction: Processes land and water data using vector tools.
  • Sounding data extraction: Generates isobaths and depth range surfaces from sounding points to create navigational key data.
  • Data standardization: Simplifies non-standard data (e.g., CAD data) into GIS-compliant formats using 1000+ automated tools.
  • Other data processing: Includes topology preprocessing, topology validation, and analytical tools.

Create Chart Group

SuperMap provides two production modes: creating new chart data or modifying existing data, both requiring editable chart groups.

  • Editable chart group: Enables map range setting, datum configuration, version control, and rapid chart creation.
  • Feature dataset management: Enhances data management efficiency through grouped feature datasets.

Chart Data Processing

Provides multiple tools for efficient editing and conversion:

  • Append features: Matches data structure with object types and fields for one-click GIS-to-chart format conversion. See Manage Features.
  • Spatial feature editing: Offers dozens of tools including object operations and vertex editing. See Edit Features.
  • Sounding group management: Merges sounding points with identical attributes to reduce redundancy.
  • Relationship management: Supports batch creation of master-slave and aggregation relationships per S-57 standards.

Chart Data Validation

Ensures data quality and safety through standardized checks (see Data Check and Topology):

  • S-58 validation: Provides 300+ checks across 9 categories, plus 6 custom SuperMap topology checks.
  • Interactive error location: Visualizes check results with direct error positioning and repair.

Chart Data Sharing

Share validated chart data through:

Through this efficient workflow, SuperMap iDesktopX enables international-standard chart data production and sharing for diverse application scenarios.
