According to international standards, chart data is distributed in the form of Exchange Set. An exchange set is a collection of multiple standardized nautical chart feature datasets for publishing and sharing.
To comply with this standard and facilitate unified management of chart datasets, SuperMap introduces the concept of Chart Group. A chart group is a logical organizational structure for managing chart datasets in the datasource. Its advantages include clear data organization hierarchy, improved readability, and ease of management and operation.
A nautical chart typically contains dozens or even hundreds of datasets. However, users focus more on the holistic display of charts rather than individual datasets. Therefore, when importing nautical chart data, SuperMap groups all datasets from the same chart into one unit, avoiding display of separate datasets. The *.000 electronic chart files correspond to chart groups in SuperMap iDesktopX workspace and chart sheets displayed on the map, enabling efficient management.
This chapter contains the following sections:
- Chart Group Types: Introduces two types of nautical chart dataset groups, naming conventions, and methods to view dataset names.
- View Chart Group Attributes: Explains how to view attributes of different group types.
- Manage Non-editable Chart Groups: Describes efficient management of non-editable chart groups through group collections.
- Delete Chart Group: Explains how to remove nautical chart dataset groups from workspace.
- Manage Chart Group Spatial Index: Introduces spatial index configuration and management methods for feature datasets.
