Buffer Zone Analysis Application Example

In cities, how to find a commercial area with convenient transportation, convenient parking and dense personnel for large shopping malls is the most concerned issue for developers. Therefore, the location of shopping malls needs to analyze various factors to select the most suitable address and obtain the greatest economic benefits. The objectives and criteria for the siting of this example are as follows:

  • Ensure that the shopping mall is within 100m of the residential area, so that residents can reach the shopping mall on foot;
  • Within 50m from the urban traffic line to ensure the accessibility of the shopping mall;
  • Within 100m from the parking lot, it is convenient for customers to park;
  • It is 500m away from the existing shopping mall to reduce the competitive pressure.

Data Preparation

  • Region Dataset, the main residential area;
  • Main traffic Road Line Data;
  • Parking Point Dataset;
  • There is already a large shopping mall, Point Dataset.

Operating Procedure

  1. Take the residential area data as the center, and establish a buffer zone with a distance of 100m, as shown in the following figure:
    Figure: Residential Area Cache Analysis
  2. Take the main traffic road as the center to establish a buffer zone of 50 m, as shown in the following figure:
    Figure: Primary Road Buffer Analysis
  3. Take the data of the parking lot and the existing large shopping mall as the center, establish 100m and 500m buffer zones respectively, and the results are shown in the following figure: of parking lot and existing mall cache area

  4. Perform Overlay Analysis on the residential area buffer zone, road buffer zone and parking lot buffer zone, and then erase the intersection result with the existing shopping mall buffer zone. The area meeting the above conditions is suitable for building large shopping malls, and the green area in the following figure is suitable for building large shopping malls. suitable for building mall
