Edit Sounding Group Properties

Feature Description

In chart production, sounding points are managed through grouping. Each sounding group contains multiple sounding point objects sharing identical attributes (except depth). Editing sounding group properties helps ensure consistency and standardization of chart data, while improving management efficiency during data updates or adjustments. By editing sounding group properties, you can:

  • Unified property settings: When modifying group properties, all sounding points within the group will be automatically updated, eliminating redundant manual modifications.
  • Ensure data consistency: During chart compilation, certain attributes (e.g., sounding remarks, measurement techniques) are critical for navigation safety. Attribute editing helps standardize specifications and maintain data uniformity.
  • Enhance efficiency: Batch modification of attributes for all sounding points within a group reduces manual operations and improves data processing efficiency, particularly when handling large volumes of sounding points.

Since all sounding points in a group share identical attribute values (except depth), modifying feature attributes of the sounding group will synchronously update all member points.

Steps

  1. Open the editable chart group containing sounding group properties and load it into the map.
  2. Chart Tab -> Chart Data Processing group -> Click Sounding Management to display the Sounding Group Management panel on the right. The upper section lists sounding groups, while the lower section displays corresponding sounding points.
  3. Select a sounding group in the list. Click the Edit Grouping Properties toolbar button to open the Sounding Group Attribute Settings dialog.

  4. In the Sounding Group Attribute Settings dialog, edit attribute values as needed. Common modifications include:
    • Sounding remarks: Click the attribute cell, select "2: shoaler than range of depth of surrounding depth area" from the dropdown. This indicates a relatively shallow area requiring special attention (e.g., sandbank, shoal, reef). Such information is vital for navigation safety in charting.
    • Sounding measurement technique: Click the attribute cell, then click ... to open the Add Objects Attributes dialog. Select "6: swept by wire-drag" under Optional Attributes and click Add>>. This technique detects underwater obstacles by wire-dragging to determine safe navigation channels.
    • Minimum scale: Directly enter values (e.g., 40000) to set the minimum visible scale as 1:40000.
  5. Modify other attributes as required. Click OK to save changes.
  6. Verify modifications: Select modified sounding points and check updated attributes through the Properties context menu.

  7. After editing, click the Sounding Group button in the panel toolbar to automatically regroup soundings.

Note:

Sounding Group operation is mandatory before exporting 000 chart data to ensure S-57 compliance and cross-platform compatibility.
