After selecting the appropriate basemap, you can add layers. MapStudio supports adding SuerMap REST Services, OGC WMTS Services, OGC WMS Services xyzTile Services and ArcGIS Vectortile Services from the Web and iPortal as layers.
Note: When adding layers, it is recommended to keep the coordinate system consistent with that of the basemap. However, MapStudio also supports overlaying data resources whose projections are inconsistent with the basemap, including iPortal structured data and non-vector tile REST data services
Add Layer
It support to add layers in the following four ways:
Add from Data list
Method 1: Click 'Data' on the left sidebar, select the data in the data list and drag it directly onto the map; or click the
icon to add the data with one click.
Method 2: Click 'Layer' on the left sidebar, and click 'Add Layer' > 'Add from Data list', and the tab lists all the added data in MapStudio. Check one or more data, then click 'Add' to add the data on the map as layers.
Add from Resource Center
Support accessing to the Service and Data in the Resource Center of the SuperMap iPortal as layers.
- Supported data formats: Structured data, SuperMap iServer REST Data Service.
- Supported service formats: SuperMap iServer REST Map Service, Vector Tile Service, Image Service, and OGC WMS, OGC WMTS Service, ArcGIS VectorTile Service.
The specific steps are as follows:

Select 'Layer' in the left sidebar, and click 'Add Layer';

The 'Resource Center' option is selected by default. Resource types include data and services that has been registered with the resource center. According to resource permissions, data and service resources are classified into 'My Data', 'Public', 'shared with Me', 'My Organization' and 'My Group'.You can select one or more data or services you want to add.
- Add SuperMap REST Service: Click the target service. If the service contains multiple maps, all maps under the service will be expanded. Click to select one or more maps to be added, and set the adding method. There are a few points to keep in mind when adding maps:
- An unclickable map item means its coordinate system is not consistent with the basemap.
- If the map contains multiple layers and you only need to add some of the layers, click 'Select Layer' and select one or more layers in the pop-up window.
- By default, the selected maps are added in the form of vector tiles. The 'Add as vector tiles' method supports editing the layer style of the added map. If unchecked the method, the selected map will be added as a raster layer. Then, click Ok to confirm.

Add SuperMap image Service: Click the target service. If the service contains multiple image collections, all image collections under the service will be expanded. Click to select one or more image collections that need to be added.

Add OGC Services: including WMS and WMTS Services.
- Add OGC WMS Service: Select the target service, and the WMS map will be added to the map as a raster layer by default. If the map contains multiple layers, click 'Select Layer' in the pop-up window and select one or more layers to be added, click OK to complete the addition.
- Add OGC WMTS Service: Select the target service, and click the showed 'Select layer', select the layer to be added and set the correct scale set, click OK to complete the addition.
- Click 'Add to map' in the lower right corner of the panel to complete the adding operation.
Add data
The administrator needs to configure the structured data storage to save the data before uploading.
- Supported data formats: CSV, EXCEL, GeoJSON.
- Supported coordinate systems: WGS 1984, WGS 1984 / Pseudo-Mercator, CGCS2000, Xian 1980, Beijing 1954.
The steps are as follows:

Select 'Layer' in the left sidebar and click on 'Add Layer'.

Select 'Upload', click on the dotted box to select the file to be uploaded, or just drag the file into the dotted box, then click on 'Next'.
- You can do such things as follows on the parameter settings page:
- MapStudio will parse your data and show some of it on this page for preview, if there are any discrepancies in the parsing, you can change the field type in the header.
- According to the data information, you can modify the separator, file encoding, field names, and whether use the first line as the field name. The preview page will update instantly when modified. Field names will be stored as record IDs in the database. Only Chinese characters, numbers, uppercase and lowercase English letters, hyphens, and underscores are supported for field names.
- The spatial information of the data will be used to add to the map, including the coordinate type, coordinate field, coordinate system, etc. Click 'Upload' when finished.
4.Wait for the upload to complete, Layer panel and Data panel will show the uploaded layer and corresponding data separately.
Add via URL
Support accessing to layers via the service address, including the REST Map Service and Vector Tile Service published in SuperMap iServer, OGC WMTS Service, OGC WMS Service, xyzTile Service, ArcGIS VectorTile Service and Image Service.
The operation steps are as follows:

Select 'Layer' in the left panel, click 'Add layer', and select 'URL' tab;

Select the service type, and then fill in the service address in the address input box, as follows:

Note: If you add a WMTS Service from other platforms, ess must be able to correctly obtain the Capabilities document of the service, such as http(s)://<server>:<port>/wmts?SERVICE=WMTS&VERSION=1.0.0&REQUEST=GetCapabilities。

If the service is secured, you need to check the 'A token is required to access this service' and enter the access token;

For the SuperMap REST Map Service, the layer will be added in the form of vector tiles by default. After adding, the layer style can be modified. If you do not need to modify the layer style, uncheck 'Add as vector tiles' and the map will be added as a raster layer. If the map contains multiple layers, you can check 'Select All' to add all layers, or you can check 'Select layer' and select one or more layers in the Sublayer list to add some of the layers. In addition, if the map service you access comes from map tile packages such as UGCV5, SMTiles, etc., you can only add layers in raster tiles; if you are adding vector tile services, you must add them in vector tiles.

For the SuperMap REST Map Service, OGC WMS Service, OGC WMTS Service, OGC WFS 2.0 Service, you can check 'Relationship DataService' and input the URL in 'Relationship DataServiceURL', and the service you registered will be associated with the corresponding data service. After completing the association, you can view the attribute table of the service you registered in data list, and set the fields in layer's popup.

Click the 'Add to map' button to complete the operation of adding a layer.
Create Layer
MapStudio supports creating layers, it allows users to create and store features online. The layer type includes points, lines, and polygons. Compared with creating data, it is more convenient to create a layer directly,because it don’t need to go through two steps:creating data and adding it to the layer. The data in the created layer will be saved in the structured data storage, which needs to be configured by the administrator before creating layers.
Once the structured data storage is configured successfully, the users can create layers in MapStudio by following the steps below:
1. Select 'Layer' in the left sidebar to enter the layer panel, click on
, and set the name, type, and attributes of the new layer in turn in the floating window. Click 'Confirm' to complete the creation. Click 'Data' in the left sidebar to enter the data panel after the layer being created, the data corresponding to the new layer will be displayed in the data panel.
2. The new layer will not be saved to the project by default after being created, so you need to add features first. You can select the new layer in the layer panel, and click 'Edit' and
in turn in the right panel to add features. Ensure the layer is visible before adding features. The procedure of creating features is the same as editing features.
Change Layer data source
Select the layer and in the right function panel, click 'attribute' Tab > 'Base dataset' drop-down list and select a dataset, the dataset in current layer will be replaced with he dataset you select. Different types of layers can be replaced with the corresponding type of datasets. Now, structured data and REST data support the replacement of datasets.
Change Layer order
You can drag a layer to change the order of layers. Select the layer that you want to move first, and drag it above or below the target layer, the top or bottom edge of the target layer will be highlighted. Then release the mouse, the layer will be moved above or below the target layer.
Remove Layer
If you need to remove a layer, you can click
on the target layer and select 'Remove' to remove the layer from the layer panel. The data corresponding to the removed layer will remain in the data panel.
Layer group
MapStudio supports creating layer groups, it can help users manage layers in an organized way, and set layers in the same layer group uniformly, such as setting visibility of layers. In addition, layer groups can be nested, that is to say, a layer group can contain other layer groups.
Select 'Layer' in the left sidebar to enter the layer panel, click on
, a layer group named 'Untitled' will be created and added to the layer panel. You can click the
on the created layer group, select 'Rename' to modify the group name. After the creation of layer group, you can drag the layers into the created layer group so as to manage the layers methodically.
Manage layer group
- Add and remove layer:Click on the target layer group, it will expand and display all the layers and layer groups in it. You can add layers to or remove layers from a layer group as needed, or create multiple layer groups and drag one group into another one to accomplish the nesting of layer groups. There is no limit on the number of nested layers within a layer group currently.
- Change the order of layers or layer groups: You can drag a layer to change the order of layers in the layer group, or drag a layer group to change the order of layer groups.
- Visibility of layer group: By using layer groups, you can manage the visibility of layers in the layer group uniformly. Select the layer group, and click
or
, the visibility of the group will be changed. If you turn off the visibility of a layer group, all layers in the group will be invisible. If you turn on the visibility of a layer group, the previously invisible layers in the group will remain invisible. - Zoom to group: Click
on the layer group, select 'Zoom to' to zoom layers to the full width of the current layer group, which includes both visible and invisible layers.
Delete layer group
To delete a layer group, you can select it first,then click
and select 'Remove' to complete the deletion. Deleting a layer group will delete all the layers in current group at the same time.
