Set The Style Of A Point Layer

Instructions

After opening the scene and selecting a point layer in the layer manager, you can set the style for the point objects in the layer and change their display effect through the Point Style group of the Style Settings tab. All symbol style settings are applied to the selected layer in real time, i.e., What You See Is What You Get.

Access

  • Style Settings tab->Point Style group

Steps

Icon File

The Icon File command is used to set or clear the icon file displayed for the point dataset added to the scene. Note: The function controls in the "Point Style" group are available only when the selected layer is a point dataset layer; otherwise, they are unavailable.

  1. After selecting a point layer in the scene, click the Icon File button in the drop-down button of the Icon File in the Point Style group of the Style Settings tab. In the "Open Icon File" dialog, select a specific icon file. After completion, click Open, and the points in the scene will display the corresponding icon file. Currently supported icon file formats include: *.png, *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.bmp, *.gif, *.sgm, *.3ds, *.mesh, *.obj, *.dae, *.x, *.osg, *.osgb, where *.sgm, *.3ds, *.mesh, *.obj, *.dae, *.x, *.osg, *.osgb are model symbols.
  2. Click the drop-down button of the Icon File in the Point Style group on the Style Settings tab, and select the Settings item. The "Point Icon Settings" panel appears on the right side of the software.
    • Icon File: Click the Open button on the right to open a specific icon file, achieving the same effect as the first step.
    • Billboard Mode: Select a billboard mode from the drop-down arrow. Four modes are provided: Screen Aligned, Ground Rotated, Free Rotate, and Z-axis Rotated. When Ground Rotated is selected, the icon file is displayed on the ground.
    • Rotation Settings: Set the counterclockwise rotation angles around the X, Y, and Z axes. The value range is [-180, 180]. This parameter is related to the billboard mode.
    • Anchor Point Settings: Used to adjust the horizontal and vertical relative position of the icon relative to the source data point. Default position: the lower-left corner of the added icon aligns with the source data point. Unit of anchor point: %, value range: [-100, 100].
      • Horizontal: Positive value means offset to the right, negative value means offset to the left. For example, setting to 100% means the icon file is offset to the right by the length of the icon file.
      • Vertical: Positive value means offset upward, negative value means offset downward. For example, setting to 100% means the icon file is offset upward by the width of the icon file.
    • To fix the icon size, check the "Fixed Size" check box (default is checked). After fixing the icon size, the icon does not scale with the scene zoom, presenting a "near large, far small" effect, i.e., the icon appears larger when zoomed in and smaller when zoomed out.
    • If you need to enable real-time refresh so that changes to parameters are immediately applied to the point icon settings in the scene for preview, check "Enable Real-Time Refresh" (default is checked).
  3. When you need to delete the set point icon file, click the Clear item in the drop-down button of the Icon File in the Point Style group on the Style Settings tab. The point symbol style is restored to the system default.

Point Symbol

The Point Symbol command is used to set the style of point symbols in a point dataset in a 3D scene.

  1. Click the drop-down button of Point Symbol in the Point Style group of the Style Settings tab. The point symbol resource list appears as shown below. The list displays recently used symbols. Users can select a symbol from the list as the symbol style for point objects in the current point layer.
  2. Users can also click the More Symbols button at the bottom of the point symbol resource list, and in the "Point Symbol Selector" window that pops up, set the symbol style for the point objects.
  3. After selecting a point symbol style, all point objects in the current point layer will be displayed in real time on the 3D globe in the form of "billboards" according to the selected point symbol style.

Color

The Color command is used to set the display color of the point symbol. Click the color button on the right, and select or set the color in the color panel that appears.

If the point symbol is already specified to display as an icon file, after setting the point symbol color, the point symbol icon will be overlaid with the color set here; if the point symbol color is set to white, the point symbol icon will display the original image color.

In addition, some 2D symbols provided in the point symbol library are special symbols in professional fields (mainly raster symbols) and have fixed colors. Modifying the color of such 2D point symbols will have no effect.

Size

Size is used to set the display size of point symbols in a point layer.

  • Users can set the point symbol size by selecting options from the combo box drop-down list. They can also enter a value in the combo box and press the Enter key, or when the text box loses focus, the size setting is applied.
  • The precision of the point symbol size value is 0.1, and the unit is millimeter.

Icon Scale

When using an icon to replace a point symbol, the Icon Scale item is used to set the scaling ratio of the icon. Enter a value in the combo box on its right and press the Enter key to apply the setting; you can also select a reference value from the drop-down list of the combo box. The unit of the symbol scale is percentage (%). This setting is available only when the point symbol uses an icon file to replace the point symbol.

Transparency

The Transparency (%) command is used to set the transparency effect of the point symbol. Users can enter a value in the numeric display box on the right of the label, or click the up and down arrows of the numeric display box to adjust the value. The transparency value is any integer between 0 and 100, where 0 means completely opaque and 100 means completely transparent.
