Triangle Mesh Simplification

Instructions for use

BIM is a kind of high-density model, which accurately and exhaustively displays the model inside and outside the building, and its data volume is astonishing, which leads to the 3D Scene performance of BIM model needs to be improved. Some BIM models have a large number of redundant triangular faces, such as bridge piers, door handles, lock cylinders, etc. By using the BIMTriangle Mesh Simplification function, all Model Objects in the layer or the triangular network of the selected Model Object are simplified, the occupation of the memory is reduced, and the performance requirement of a large amount of data is met.

Operation steps

  1. Right-click Datasource in Workspace Manager and select Open File Datasource "to open the Datasource containing the BIMModel Dataest.
  2. Select Model Dataest, right-click the Add to New Spherical Scene ", select the model layer in Layer Manager, and right-click the Jump to Layer".
  3. Click the Model Edit Drop-down Button in the Model Operation group on the 3D Geographic Design tab. In the pop-up drop-down menu, select Triangle Mesh Simplification "to pop up the Triangle Mesh Simplification" dialog box, as shown in the following figure:
  4. Figure: BIM Simplification "Dialog Box
  5. Set the source data Parameters. In the source data group, select Model: Layer of Object through the drop-down arrow to the right of the model layer, and then select whether the simplified object is All Objects or Select Objects.
    • All Objects: All Model Objects of the layer will be simplified.
    • Select Objects: Only selected models in the layer will be simplified. Check this item to ensure that there are already Model Objects selected in the scene. "Left mouse button + Shift" can select multiple Model Objects in the scene.
  6. Set the simplification parameters and Simplify information as follows:
    • Keep the boundary unchanged when simplified: checked by default. Uncheck the check box when the boundary of the simplified model needs to be synchronized.
    • To simplify filtering (Number of triangle planes), click the Statistic triangle plane number "button. Count the Number of triangle planes of each sub-object contained in the model. The final Statistics Result is displayed in on the right in real time, showing the range of the number of triangle planes of the specified Model Object. Enter the Number of triangle planes range for Triangle Mesh Simplification operation in the text box after simplified filtering (Number of triangle planes). The quantity range of the filtered Number of triangle plans must be within the Statistics Result range to participate in the simplification operation.
    • Simplified filtering (number of vertices): Click the Statistic triangle plane number "button to calculate the number of vertices of each sub-object included in the model, and the final Statistics Result is displayed in on the right in real time. Shows the range of vertex counts for the specified Model Object. Enter the vertex number range for Triangle Mesh Simplification operation in the text box after simplified filtering (vertex number). The filtered Vertex Count range can participate in the simplified operation only when it is within the Statistics Result range.
    • Simplify information: slide the scale bar to set the simplification rate and simplify the number of triangular patches. Each time the scale value is changed, the selected model layer will be simplified. The Number of triangle planes in the Simplify information group and the simplified percentage value will be calculated and displayed in real time. At the same time, the simplified effect can be previewed in the Second View. As shown in the following figure:
  7. Figure: Preview of BIM Simplification
  8. Set Result Data Storage Parameters, including Datasource selection and Dataset naming.
    • Datasource: Datasource designation for the simplified result model storage. Mouse click the drop-down arrow to the right of the Datasource to select it.
    • Dataset: The name of the Result Dataset. The default is SimplifyResult. The Dataset Name can be customized.
  9. Click Save to simplify the BIM model. The Result Storage Set generates a Model Dataest under the specified Result Datasource.

Precautions

  1. After replacing the model layer, you need to click the "Statistic triangle plane number" "button to refresh the information of the simplification condition.
  2. Each time you simplify, under the Temporary Data source in Workspace, the simplified effect data displayed by Second View in the scene is retained.
