Layout Template Management

Feature Description

A layout template is a layout that only contains fixed framework information. It has general professional universality and standardization. In a layout template, some key information will be defined to meet the needs of dynamic information. You can load it into a layout, then add the necessary map elements and modify the corresponding key information to complete the layout arrangement of the entire map. Layout templates are suitable for tasks with similar nature and content, such as printing cadastral maps and parcel maps in cadastral management systems. Layout templates are very beneficial for batch production of standardized layouts with similar content, making map output very convenient.

Provides various types of layout templates, including single map templates, multi-map templates, land use planning templates (horizontal and vertical versions), as well as cadastral survey forms and parcel sketches, to meet the needs of different scenarios. When using a layout template to create a layout, map elements such as map title, scale bar, north arrow, and geometric elements such as points, lines, and polygons contained in the template are automatically loaded into the current layout for use.

Also supports the management of layout templates, including editing existing layout templates, importing/exporting templates, and managing template grouping.

Functional Entrance

  • Start tab -> Browse group -> Layout.
  • In the Workspace Manager -> Right-click the Layout node -> New Layout item.

Operation Instructions

  1. Use Layout Template: In the New Layout window. This window displays the system's built-in layout templates in order, including a blank layout, single map template, multi-map template, land use planning template, and a total of 26 layout templates. The following operations can be performed on layout templates:
    • Edit Layout Groups: The system defaults to dividing templates into four groups: "All", "General", "Land Use", and "Others". Clicking different group buttons allows you to switch and view the templates under the current group. The "All" group contains all layout templates.
      • Add Group: Click the "Add" button to create a new group.
      • Delete Group: Select the group to be deleted, right-click and choose the "Delete" button to delete the current group.
      • Rename Group: Select the group to be renamed, right-click the "Rename" button to rename the current group.
      • Add Layout Template: Supports adding new layout templates to a group. Click a group template button, and in the current group list, select the Add Template option, open the file selector, select and open a *.ult layout template file to add the selected layout template to that group.
    • Edit Layout Template: Supports editing, exporting, and deleting existing templates.
      • Edit Template: Select the template to edit in the layout list area, right-click the Edit button to pop up the Layout Template Properties dialog box. You can edit and modify the template's group, name, author, and layout description. After making changes, click the OK button to save the current modifications.
      • Export Template: Select the template to export, right-click and choose the Export button to export the current template as a *.ult layout template file. This template file can be used in the production of other layouts.
      • Delete Template: Select the template to delete, right-click and choose the Delete button to delete the current template. Note: Deleting template files is irreversible.
      • Import Template: Click the Import button, you can select and open a *.ult layout template file to create the current layout based on the loaded layout template. If the data sources and datasets associated with the maps contained in the original layout template are different from those in the current workspace, only elements such as the north arrow, map title, scale bar, and geometries like points, lines, and polygons, as well as map controls without filled maps, will be loaded into the current layout.
  2. Export Layout Template: You can create a layout template according to cartographic needs, save it as a *.ult layout template file, and apply it to other layout productions.
    • In the current layout, right-click and select the Export Layout Template... button, or in the Workspace Manager -> Right-click the Layout node -> Export Layout Template....
    • If the layout contains picture objects, when saving as a template, the pictures will be stored in the *.ulttemplate file. When loading a layout template, the local path's picture file will be read first. If the picture does not exist in the local path, then the picture saved in the *.ulttemplate file will be used.
