Feature Description
Auto-cut Polygons automatically splits newly drawn polygon objects when they intersect existing features, generating new object(s). The result may be either a single polygon or a complex polygon object.
- This feature applies to polygon layers or CAD layers.
- If a newly drawn object intersects existing features, the overlapping portion will be automatically trimmed, producing a new object.
- No splitting occurs if the new object doesn't intersect any existing features.
- When a new polygon crosses existing features, it generates a complex polygon containing multiple sub-objects. As shown below, a newly drawn rectangle (dashed line) intersecting a filled rectangle produces a complex object with two sub-objects.
Feature Entry
- Features tab -> Feature Drawing group -> Drawing Settings drop-down menu -> Auto-cut Polygons.

- Enable the feature: In Features tab's Feature Drawing group, click Drawing Settings drop-down button and select Auto-cut Polygons, or use Shift+R shortcut. Click again to disable.
- Draw a polygon in the current editable layer. Figure 1 shows a dashed rectangle being drawn.
- When the new rectangle intersects two existing rectangles, it gets split as shown in Figure 2.
- Move the resulting object as shown in Figure 3.
- To disable this feature, uncheck Auto-cut Polygons.
