Adjacent Countries Layer and Maritime Areas

The main map primarily displays meteorological information within China's territory. However, in practical cartography, maps containing only Chinese geographic data may appear monotonous and unbalanced. Appropriately adding adjacent country layers and configuring maritime colors can significantly enhance visual richness and aesthetic appeal.

Configure Adjacent Country Polygon Layer

  1. In layer manager, double-click the Neighbor_R layer node name, or select the layer and right-click to choose "Layer Style" from context menu, opening the "Styles" window;
  2. To avoid visual interference with main content, set polygon fill color (RGB) to (255,255,255) and border color (RGB) to (158,158,158) with 0.1mm line width.

Configure Country Name Label Thematic Map

  1. Select Neighbor_R layer in layer manager;
  2. Navigate to Thematic Map tab and choose "Label Thematic Map". The system will create a default uniform label map based on Neighbor_R layer, automatically adding it as top layer;
  3. Configure parameters in "Uniform Label" window:
    • Label Expression: Set to COUNTRY field under "Properties" tab;
    • Label Style: Set font to SimHei, size 11, text color (85,85,85), white background in "Style" tab.
  4. Place Neighbor_R label map below Provinces_R graduated color map to prevent overlap;
  5. Right-click the label map and select "Output Thematic Map Template" to save configuration as *.xml file.

Configure Maritime Color and Annotations

  1. Set ocean color through map background: Go to Map Properties tab > Browse group > Background drop-down button, select custom color (181,220,255);
  2. Enable visibility of SeaLabel_T layer containing ocean name annotations.

Notes

The preconfigured label template (NeighborLabel.xml) is available at \SampleData\China directory. Users can directly apply this thematic map template to Neighbor_R layer for instant visualization.
