A thematic map emphasizes the representation of one or several natural phenomena or socio-economic phenomena, consisting of two components: thematic content and geographic base map.
This documentation provides a cartographic example to demonstrate how to design and configure both geographic base maps and thematic content using desktop application system, ultimately creating a visually appealing map.

This practical example includes four parts: data preparation, base map configuration, thematic content design and configuration, and map surround elements. Through cartographic operations in desktop application system, we will configure a Weather Forecast Matrix Label Thematic Map to display daily weather forecasts for provincial capitals across the country, supplemented by base map layers conveying hydrological and meteorological information of China. The final output is shown in the following illustration:
