Split
Feature Description
The Split function divides line objects into new segments.
- This feature allows breaking line objects at any clicked position.
- Applicable layers include line layers or CAD layers containing line objects. The target layer must be editable.
- During splitting operations, the snapping function can be activated for precise positioning, particularly useful when breaking at line intersections.
- When selecting intersection points of multiple objects, the Select the object that you want to break dialog appears, enabling object selection with highlighted visualization in the map.
- Special considerations for closed objects:
In SuperMap, closed line objects are considered as features with coincident start and end points, collectively referred to as endpoints.
For closed line objects (e.g., circles, rectangles), a single split operation will automatically break both endpoints, generating two separate line objects.
- After splitting, newly created line objects are temporarily displayed in distinct colors for differentiation.
Feature Entry
- Features Tab->Feature Editing Group Dropdown->Split.
Steps
- Click the Split button in the Feature Editing group under the Features tab to initiate the operation.
- Map cursor prompt: "Click to break". Click the desired position on the target object to split it. New segments temporarily display in red and blue.
Post-operation, the original object is deleted and replaced with (number of splits +1) new line objects. System fields are auto-populated, while non-system fields retain original attributes.
- When splitting at multi-object intersections, select target objects through the Select the object that you want to break dialog. Checked objects highlight in the map.

The split function is unavailable for parametric objects (e.g., arcs, three-point arcs, splines). Parametric objects exist in CAD datasets.
