Feature Smooth
Smooth

Feature Description

The Feature Editing group on the Features tab provides functionality for processing boundary lines of line or region geometries. The curve smoothing feature primarily smooths boundary lines of lines or regions, converting polylines into continuous smooth line objects.

Controls in the Feature Editing group become available only when editable geometries (lines and regions) are selected in the map.

  • The Smooth function smooths boundary lines of selected editable lines or regions in the current map.
  • Smoothness indicates the degree to which the original line object becomes smoother. This parameter value is proportional to the number of nodes in the modified line object. The value type is integer, with valid range 2-10.
  • For principles and result descriptions of curve smoothing, see: Smooth Method Description.
  • Line objects participating in smooth operation must contain more than 3 nodes (inclusive). Since a two-point straight line is already smooth, no smoothing is needed.

Feature Entry

  • Features Tab -> Feature Editing Group Dropdown -> Smooth.

Steps

  1. Set the layer containing geometries (lines or regions) to be smoothed as editable in the map.
  2. Select geometries (lines or regions) to be smoothed. Multiple geometries can be selected by holding Shift or Ctrl keys.
  3. In the Gallery control of Feature Editing group under Features tab, click Smooth button to open Curve Smoothness Settings dialog.
  4. Enter smoothness value in the text box on the right of Smoothness. Default value is 4.
  5. To smooth geometries in other layers, repeat steps 1 to 4.
  6. Click OK to complete curve smoothing for selected objects.
Note:

When multi-layer editing is enabled, users can simultaneously select multiple lines and regions from multiple editable layers for curve smoothing operations.
