Smooth
Feature Description
The Feature Editing group on the Features tab provides functions to process the boundary lines of line or polygon geometries. The curve smoothing feature primarily smooths the boundary lines of lines or regions, converting polylines into continuous smooth line objects.
Controls in the Feature Editing group become available only when there are selected editable geometries (lines or regions) in the map layers.
- The Smooth function smooths boundary lines of selected editable lines or regions in the current map.
- Smoothness indicates the degree to which the original line object becomes smoother. This parameter value is proportional to the number of nodes in the modified line object. It accepts integer values ranging from 2 to 10.
- For principles and result explanations of curve smoothing, see: Smoothing Method Description.
- Line objects to be smoothed must contain at least 3 nodes, as a two-point straight line is already smooth and requires no further processing.
Feature Entry
- Features Tab -> Dropdown in Feature Editing Group -> Smooth.
Steps
- Set the layer containing the geometries (lines or regions) to be smoothed in the map to editable status.
- Select target geometries (lines or regions). Multiple geometries can be selected by holding Shift or Ctrl keys.
- Click the Smooth button in the Gallery control of the Feature Editing group under Features tab to open the Curve Smoothness Settings dialog.
- Enter a smoothness value in the text box on the right of Smoothness. Default value is 4.
- To smooth geometries in other layers, repeat steps 1 through 4.
- Click OK to complete curve smoothing for selected objects.

When multi-layer editing is enabled, users can simultaneously select multiple lines and regions from multiple editable layers to perform curve smoothing operations.
