Stream Order

Instructions for use

The rivers in the basin are divided into main streams and tributaries. In hydrology, a river is classified according to its flow, shape, and other factors. In Hydrological Analysis, certain characteristics of a river can be inferred from its rank.

The Stream Order function is used to rank the river. Based on the Raster River System, the Stream Order is numbered according to Direction Raster. The higher the number value, the higher the rank. Currently, SuperMap provides two Stream Order methods: the Strahler method and the Shreve method. For an introduction to the two classification methods, see the Stream Order method .

Function entrance

  • Spatial Analysis tab-> Raster Analysis group-> Hydrological Analysis-> Stream Order.
  • Toolbox-> Raster Analysis-> Hydr ological Analysis-> Stream Order.

Parameter Description

  • River System Data: Select the Datasource and Dataset where the grid River System Data is located.
  • Flow Direction Data: Select Datasource and Dataset where Flow Direction Data is located. For how to generate Flow Direction Data, see Calculate Flow Direction.
  • Stream Order Method: Select the method used for Stream Order. Strahler method and Shrevemethod can be selected.
  • Result Data: Set the name of the Datasource and Dataset to save the result.
  • Click the Execute button to execute the prepared analysis function. After the execution completed, the Output Window will prompt whether the Result succeeds or fails.
