Ground Excavation

Ground excavation is used to excavate data to reveal internal structures. This function is applicable to terrain, city fine model, building white model, BIM and oblique photography 3D model data, and only supports use in spherical scenes.

Ground excavation can be applied to municipal engineering, urban planning and other fields.

Operating steps

  1. Click the Terrain Analysis - Ground Excavation button to switch to the Ground Excavation Settings panel.
  2. Check the data that participated in the analysis in the layer list. GlobalImage in the example data indicates terrain data. If checked, both terrain data and sphere skin in the scene will participate in excavation analysis. If the 3D model is selected, the 3D model will also be excavated.
  3. Set the following parameters as required.
    • Elevation: refers to the excavation depth, which represents the depth of downward excavation, and the unit is meters.
    • Subdivision interpolation: It is used to control the degree of fit between the edge of the excavation face and the three-dimensional terrain. The larger the value, the more interpolation there is for the excavation face to undulate along with the terrain. The better the bonding effect, the higher the performance consumption will be.
    • Excavation method: Within the area, the terrain within the area will be excavated. If the 3D model is selected, the models within the area will also be excavated. Outside the area, since the terrain does not support excavation outside the area, after setting, the terrain effect is still excavation within the area. However, if the 3D model is selected, it will be excavation outside the area of the model.
    • Material settings: used to set the excavation bottom and side materials, click the material options box to set the bottom and side materials respectively.
  4. When the setup is complete, click Analyze , then left click to draw the excavation area in the 3D scene, right click to finish drawing.
  5. When you finish painting, analysis results are generated in the scene. The results of ground excavation are shown in the figure below.
  6. From version 11.3.0, it is possible to continuously draw excavation surfaces and support the resetting of parameters before continuing to draw new excavation surfaces.
  7. After finishing the analysis, click Clear to remove all excavation results in the scene.
